Feeling good about next year

with sc, ga, and uf.....there are pieces in place that i think you can be fairly confident.

sc. defense will be average, because it is always average. offense has jeffrey and lattimore. there is a new qb and if he couldn't beat out garcia, that's a concern. i know for a fact that spurrier was looking for any reason to put garcia on the bench and it never happened.

uf. i think the defense will be very good. offense. i have no idea what the new staff can do in 1 year with a complete change in philosophy.

ga. who the hell knows what's going on at georgia (this is something to be truly confident in). georgia doesn't make any sense from one year to the next. the only consistent thing they do is lose to florida.

Spurrier claims that Garcia is going to have to win his starting job this spring (again).

There's a lot of talent to work with on UF's D and Muschamp is a very good DC. It's going to be interesting to see Weiss have to use the Rainey and Demps types at TB. They aren't suited for a between the tackles run game.

The WRs are track guys that have never had to run strict routes either. It could be a very rough year for UF's O or Brantley could look like Brady Quinn.

UGA consistently loses to UF and can't seem to beat Tennessee in back to back years. The dawgs also lost their best LBer to the draft.

Four non conference games plus Vandy and Kandy gives us six. Without AJ Green, Georgia should be a win. LSU in Knoxville toss up but I think a win because we should be pumped for this game after last year. Arkansas is a toss up. South Carolina got their one win for the decade, if we can contain Lattimore it will be a win in a close one. Florida is an unknown with new offense, cou.ld be a great team or a bust. Alabama losing Julio Jones and Darius will hurt, but still more talent and home field advantage. I believe we beat Georgia, LSU or uscjr, and we should end up with 8-4 record and outback bowl bid. My prediction is 9-3 with an explosive offense and a better defense competing for east title.

Bray's play against UNC leads me to believe Bray's a legit QB. He two fluke INTs and then one terrible pass.

Hunter and Rogers are athletic freaks. Does that translate to being great WRs? We'll see.

The OL played surprisingly well and got better every game. The only OL Tennessee loses is Shaw, who was the worst OL on the field most of the time.

There's still a need for more speed at TB.
Completely agree. I'm more concerned about the running back for 2012. If someone in this class turns out to be a sleeper or we pick up a really good prospect next year, our offense may be one of the best, IMO.

This disappoints me.

Tennessee should win 6 games next year. Dooley needs to be at least 7-5 or the fans start getting restless.
Agreed. 6 should be the minimum. If he wins 5, his seat should be on fire going into 2012.

Now that I have had time to get the season behind me I feel good about 2011. We are loaded with a qb and offense. I feel our wins will be mostly blowouts and our losses will be close ones. We can score and that can keep us in games. We are even capable of pulling out some games for real this year. Bama and Uf and LSU are very winnable. Just one of those games with a win and we can be 9-3 10-2. I am totally serious.

Name one good team that we beat this year. Scratch that idea. Name one DECENT team that we beat this year. Now think about that before you get all giddy and start predicting winnable games against Bama, Florida and LSU next year.

1. i don't know how good tennessee's young talent really is. bray and company did their damage against the junior varsity portion of the tennessee schedule. even florida's offense had a field day against vanderbilt and kentucky.
I can't say for sure that Bray will be spectacular next season. He may well have a sophomore slump after losing some of his top receivers. That being said, his talent isn't really questionable, IMO. I'm not saying that because he lit up bad teams. I'm saying that because he's flat better at passing than the majority of quarterbacks in the conference already.

I have no idea. I expect 6-6 without getting blown out. I think the offense will be explosive, but will need three or 4 games to find guys to replace jones, Moore, and stocker. I expect UT's dbs to whiff on a few more receivers, but thank god it won't be a j green or jones. Defense will take 4 games to find it's groove unless the acl injury bug bites again with third and Wilcox leading the defense to mediocrity again.

I'd say worst case we go 6-6, Cincinnati won't be an easy win, despite what everyone thinks their offense could give us serious problems. If we go 7-5 the fan base will still be annoyed with the progress, but it's way too early to put down a record for next year. If we have a great spring and finish strong in recruiting we could win between 8 and 9 games.

Our schedule goes as follows and this is my belief on how we will finish, with the talent that we have though unexerienced I think we should be AT LEAST 8-4

Montana-easy win

Cincinatti-good early season test but should be another easy win

at Florida-definately winnable, but definately loseable as well

Buffalo-Easy win, Buffalo is one of the wors teams in the FBS

Georgia-Another tossup, Georgia had their way with Tennessee this year but this game is at hoem

LSU-Loss but LSU will be one of the best teams in the country

at Alabama-another loss, Bama is good and at home

South Carolina-another toss up, it's at home and you never know

Middle Tennessee-Easy win, they're supposed to be way down even for their standards

at Arkansas-Loss

Vanderbilt-Easy Win at home

at Kentucky-Good game but win

There are 5 guaranteed wins but we should do no better than 9-3

I am looking for us to win 7 maybe 8 games. It really is exciting when you look at our young roster and think of the possibilities for us in the next 2 to 3 years. Hopefully Bray works hard this off season and continues to build where he left off. Our offense should be much improved as long as our O-Line play's more consistently, we are getting much needed depth injected along our offensive line with Kerbyson,Posey,Jackson,Crowder and hopefully Richardson coming in next year. Hopefully our running game is much improved with the maturation of our young line and an added year of strength training. I really believe our running game is the key to our success next year because we cant be successfull in the SEC being one dimensional.I do think that Poole and Neal can get it done if the O line improves. We have some very young talented wr's but we are still going to miss DMO,Jones and Stocker. Our Defensive line should be studly cuz we will have Ben Martin and Marlon Walls back along with Hughes, Jackson, Smith and Miller. I am really worried about our Lb's next year Reveiz was really the heart and soul of our defense and he is definetly going to be missed, hopefully some guy's step up. Our db's should be pretty good and we have a ton of yong talent coming in to provide depth and I am sure we will see a few of them out on the field (Randolph,Martin,Coleman, Lanier, hopefully Loften). We have alot of young talent all over the place and the future is looking bright, I think we might come out and shock some people but I think alot of it depends on our O line and Line backers next year. UT will rise again!

Was the LSU game winnable this year?

We have a long off season and a national signing day ahead before we start making assumptions about wins/ losses. Lets see how dooley does with national signing day than we can talk leading in spring practice. Biggest thing about excited about is the new strength/ conditioning coach. special forces background = a team about team and mental strength. Greatest hire under dooley yet hands down!!

Keep telling yourself that.

Our defense is still going to be a huge weak spot with the inexperience on the line and at linebacker. The offense should score enough to keep us in games like that for the most part, but ultimately it's defense that wins games in the SEC. I still think we're looking at 6-6 next year, but it'll be a much better looking 6-6 than what we saw this year. I doubt we'll see the team get completely blown out like they did a number of times this year, the added depth should help in that regard.

It is reasonable to predict that UT will have a chance in at least one game out of LSU, UF and Alabama. It has happened the last two years. We were a field goal away from beating Alabama's title team and a penalty away from beating LSU with the most depleted team we will have for quite some time. Things don't always fall exactly in line with the numbers or there would be no point in playing the game.

You don't have any type of clairvoyance to say that UT has no shot at any game. You can state probabilities, sure, but no game is unwinnable.

I think 9/10 wins is a bit much, but I do think we are better than 6-6.

Locks:

Montana
Cinci
MTSU
Buff
Vandy
Kentucky (I will always have them here until they beat us)

We can win 1 or 2 of these:

South Carolina
Georgia
Florida
LSU

No Chance:

Alabama
Arkansas (That offense will be to much for our defense)

I don't think 6-6 is bad enough to cost Dooley his job and I wouldn't devistated, but I think we can win 7/8 games.

Montana, Buffalo, MiddleTennessee State, Vandy, Kentucky = 5 wins. Cincinnati, Georgia (minus Green), and LSU (UT always plays LSU tough) at home are winnable. I'll predict 8 wins today.

tennessee would be improved with out any incoming recruits and they will have more back ups,and offense will score between 10 and 14 more points a game ,and defense will be better at most positions, between a much better offense that will help keep the defense off the field plus more depth. on d side of ball that they will be able to play with teams instead pf getting tired from lack of depth.vols win 9 atleast and dont get blowed out any,not saying they wi;l beat bama, florida, usc jr,lsu, georgia but i think if they play well they could win all five mentioned, but definatly win 2 or 3.if tiny signs he cou;d start from day one in place of dallas thomas, plus we have the bullard transfer plus i heard we were getting another ot or guard plus a transfer of a very good lb with our returners plus aj johnson, christian harris, and hopefully dawson or/andmeggit.we all know they are going to be greatly improved, and we vol fans just have to show confidence which wi;l help the teams confidence, auburn was just hoping to improve on 8win season they won 14,so it cou;d happen to tennessee.go big orange.think im crazy or stupid i dont care ,i am just one of many crazed fans ,i have seen many ups and downs im 41 and i started listening and watxhing vols in 1973 with my uncle. because my dad worked in ohio and was always the enemy i always wore orange and white ans he was a wildkittens fan.jhfittv just have faith in the Tennessee Vols

From what I can tell, the OP was giving predictions for next year. Bama lost important cogs from a disappointing team. Florida doesn't have the players for their new OC's offensive philosophy. We took LSU to an untimed play last year with a younger, less experienced team than we will have next.

Give the guy a break and let him have some positivity about the VOLs. Geez, isn't that what it's all about?

Tennessee will win at least 8-9 games this year. The coaching staff is settled in and we have a great hire at S&C coach. We are putting together another great recruiting class with boys that are going to come in and start producing immediately. Alex Bullard is greatly going to help the O-Line which will be overall better from experience from Stone, James, and Fulton. This being said the running game will be much better as Poole and Neal will make bigger plays. Bray will continue to improve every game as well as Rogers, Hunter, Milton, etc. I think Rivera at tight end will be really good even though we lost stocker. Defense may struggle at times but we've got an easy early schedule with only one away game out of the first 4 to give them time to develop. A lot of you guys are overlooking the play makers on defense such as Janzen Jackson, Malik Jackson, Herman Lathers, etc. We will lose no fewer than 6 games and in my opinion that would be a huge disappointment. So as I've said before, 8-9 wins should be expected in our team and we all need to have faith!:)

If you guys give up on Dooley for any reason other than him losing control of the team, you are making a bad mistake and deserve the next Lane Kiffen you end up with. Dooley is solid; if you don't see that, you don't deserve him.
