Feel bad for Butch Jones

Personally I don't give a **** how jones feels. He has failed miserable at game management over and over, has failed to do player development, has surrounded himself with lower level assistance instead of breaking in the best available. For me, its time to move on. It's unacceptable to lose to an 18 year old Sr after a bye and now Candy.

I see the same comedy of errors occurring year over year with him

When you gradually succeed everywhere you go, you start to believe what you do is the "right way of doing things".

When he accepted the job at TN, I don't think he realized how tough the SEC was and how many brilliant coaches come to the conference year after year.

Too be fair, in his head, he was ready to take the challenge. He is obviously more of an offensive guy, so he kept all his guys in tact... but what did he do his first year?

Grabbed some defensive guys that new SEC as well as how to recruit.

Fast forward, he DID make changes. He took a gamble and got a stud DC in Shoop (at least we all thought). The offense got slightly better, but you still got to wonder what type of team we would be with a more accurate passer (and consistent).

Coach Butch Jones seems to behind the curb instead of ahead. Something is holding this team team back, and it starts with CBJ fixing it. Question is, will he? Or will he continue to assume his way is still the right way?
I can't feel bad for someone who is so proud or so stubborn or so something that despite all evidence, insists on doing everything his way. Or her way.

Pride goeth before a fall, and all that.

He never really succeeded. He liked to talk about his championships, but he never got the BigEast BCS invite so he didn't actually win the championship those years. That has always rubbed me wrong from his opening presser. Should have been a red flag that he is a hype machine but now I think he actually believes that his system is a championship system.

Derek Mason is a much better coach than Butch Jones and it's not even close, sadly:cray:

Hate to admit it, but this is true...

Mason has taken the lowest recruiting classes in the SEC and embarassed the likes of us, Ole Miss and UGA with our perenial top 10 national classes..

His team has steadily improved...sign of good coaching.

If you feel bad for Butch, I have a question. What is wrong with you? Not only does he make $4.1 million, not only did we lose to Vandy and South Carolina, not only does our current recruiting class suck, not only did a team with a top ten roster go 8-4, not only did we lose the SEC East to McElbeaver, but the guy can't even answer the damn questions by the media after an absolutely pathetic performance. I feel bad for us as fans having to witness this crap. And Butch is butt hurt? Too bad, buttercup. If it was my choice, he's history as soon as an elite replacement is an option (fingers crossed for Fleck).

BJ has the same record as Dooley. With much better talent. Ponder that. I don't feel sorry for him.

Wtf?

Dooley NEVER had a winning season at UT.

Butch isn't perfect and certainly MUST improve, but he's had only one losing season at UT.

No but their records are the same except Dooley has 1 more loss in sec
CBJ 14-16 (5-13 sec)
Dooley 14-16 (4-14 sec)

He has $16 million dollars from the University of Tennessee in the bank, and he's not very good at his job. I don't feel bad for him at all.

I feel bad for the fans that believed in the bozo, and mostly some really good players that have won a lot despite being handicapped by a dumb azz

CBJ is the reason for the effect. It's not him fixing anything. He's the problem, and you can't fix someone who doesn't think they need fixing. I've said this before on this board, Butch is a micromanager without the X and O skills needed to produce SEC caliber teams. How do you think a top 25-30 DC in the country comes here and instantly looks incompetent? It's CBJ micromanaging. Bring in a DC, throw him in a room with YOUR guys not HIS, and then tell him to coach a team using previous language. That's ludacris, but that's what CBJ did. Only reason Shoop agreed to that was because Penn St. looked like a dumpster fire and his family lives in TN.

CBJ is a micromanager who can't cut it in the SEC, period. No assistant coach can save him. Just like Miles at LSU, CBJ sees his actions as enough. It took Miles being fired before he came out and admitted he needs to change his offensive philosophy. CBJ is the cause for the effect we see right now.

It's a dog eat dog world. He's not working two factory jobs to make ends meet. He's making millions at one of the top universities in the country to be a football coach. You get it done or you pack your stuff and move on. Either way he leaves a millionaire and some other school will hire him for recruiting and to be a life coach.
