When you gradually succeed everywhere you go, you start to believe what you do is the "right way of doing things".

When he accepted the job at TN, I don't think he realized how tough the SEC was and how many brilliant coaches come to the conference year after year.

Too be fair, in his head, he was ready to take the challenge. He is obviously more of an offensive guy, so he kept all his guys in tact... but what did he do his first year?

Grabbed some defensive guys that new SEC as well as how to recruit.

Fast forward, he DID make changes. He took a gamble and got a stud DC in Shoop (at least we all thought). The offense got slightly better, but you still got to wonder what type of team we would be with a more accurate passer (and consistent).

Coach Butch Jones seems to behind the curb instead of ahead. Something is holding this team team back, and it starts with CBJ fixing it. Question is, will he? Or will he continue to assume his way is still the right way?

I feel bad that he won't resign and he needs to. Next year is going to be too painful to watch, knowing the inevitable

He isn't a victim. Butch is making more than $4 million a year to fail. He will be fine.

Eh. He's made a lot of $ here and probably more to come. I don't hate the guy but I don't feel bad for him either.

It is what it is. Nature of the business.

Dude, feel bad for hungry children, those that die in war, etc. Butch didn't get killed by a drunk driver. This is a game and he is a head coach that is struggling. Life goes on.

Its been 4 years and how many millions of dollars? If he aint figured it out by now, he never will.

Butch Jones just got outcoached by Derek freaking Mason. Derek Mason. I mean this Vandy game was Dooley like.

If he resigned then the people who wanted him to resign would complain that he is a quitter and he quit on his players.
IF he resigned I doudt any college program would hire him as a head coach ever.

Why resign and lose money when you can wait for U.T. to fire you and owe you money.
I bet bUTch is on the phone right now with Dooley asking advice about leaving this job. I bet Dooley tells him to wait to get fired and get a big buyout.

He has $16 million dollars from the University of Tennessee in the bank, and he's not very good at his job. I don't feel bad for him at all.

There isn't a reason to feel sorry for him. Coaching at this level is difficult at best, he should know that. If he wants a job where he can produce results in the 50 to 75% range then he needs to become a weatherman.

Him saying he doesn't understand why he's taking heat from the fans this year is asinine. He's playing the wounded idiot and that dog won't hunt. I could care less if his feelings are hurt, he took this job 4-years ago knowing full well what the expectations were. Now it's time to put up or shut up.

He was determined to live & die by Josh Dobbs and that's what he got. I'm not just talking about Dobbs fumble tonight, but his overall passing efficiency & decision-making. I still say Butchs' "stubborness" to see reality and change is his greatest weakness. Maybe there's some good reasons for the poor defensive effort besides injuries, I don't know, but the SC & Vanderbilt losses are glaring. Despite everything else that was going on, he still had a good chance to win the east and with a W today make the sugar bowl. Unfortunately, Tom Hermann he's not, and I've been very supportive up to this point but I lay those 2 losses at his feet.

Feel Bad for Jones?

He just lost to Vanderbilt for crying out loud.

We didn't just lose, we literally fumbled our way to the loss and that is on the players...BUT...Vanderbilt ran, passed all over us, all over us and they did that to nobody all season.

Jones lost to Derek F'n Mason and you feel bad for Jones?

No.

I have been saying for 3 years now that Butch cannot win unless he has way SUPERIOR talent over the opposite team and he likes to say he's the CEO, to take the pressure off of him and his mistakes to let the blame fall on the assistants...........note to butch: when the assistants are messing up then you step in and make adjustments.....THATS UR JOB !!
