I think the coaches and media alike are itching to get a familiar name back at the top. I think any Memphis loss results in them being knocked down several spots. Nobody want a bunch of "thugs" as the #1 team in the country and that is the way the team is perceived. They even had a special last night on the news here in Memphis showing the good things the Tigers have done like helping St. Jude and bringing patients to practice in an effort to counter the national media's negative spin on the Tiger team. A loss by either and the game is only important in Tennessee IMO.

Two years ago, you had probably 800 fans there. Scalpers will be selling mostly student tickets-- but the student section only seats 3,500, so unless the buyer is in line at 8 am, he/she will be shelling out alot of money for nothing. We sold out of season tickets this year, and I'm sure some were to Vols fans (but probably not over 200 of them). I am willing to bet that most of the orange will be in the suites in corporate seats. I'll be shocked if there's over 1,000, but there will probably be a sizeable amount of fans from both schools on Beale Street who don't have tickets. I can guarantee one thing-- it will be the most hostile environment you've played in all year.

That is completely false. I was there, and it was WAY more than 800.

To be fair, part of said alcohol is beer, lowering the proof of the drink. I would rather go to Blues City, catch the band (especially if it's The Dempseys) and grab a rack of their ribs.

Saw them in Nashville right after they played for the Prime Minister of Japan somewhere. They brought my energy up, for sure.

Any of you Memphis residents been on Reed Hooker Lane in Collierville? They had some pretty potent shrooms growing in a field behind a baseball park back in 1994.

The show is called The First 48, and only punks and sissys have to worry about something happening to them in Memphis. There isn't a part of town here that I wouldn't walk through by myself at night. And that's the truth.

Then you are crazy. I lived there for 4 years and consider myself neither a punk nor a sissy. There are plenty of areas that I wouldn't walk through at night, even with a friend or two. If you'd like, I can give you personal references of mugging victims and car thefts.

And it will also be the nicest arena to see a game/play in all year so there's a plus :good!:

Yet Memphis leads the nation in violent crime. Must be all of the safe places to walk through at night that contribute to that statistic.

Memphis was named the nation's fifth most dangerous metro area for pedestrians, in a 2004 study by the Surface Transportation Policy Project.
Look it up

Anyone remember about 15 years ago, an initiation into one of Memphis' gangs was to drive at night with no headlights? Well, when a good samaritan would flash their own lights to warn them, they would turn around and follow the car and shoot the victim without even knowing who they were.

That still exists. they have a new one now, though. They will stop you and ask you for directions, and if you pay attention to them and give them the directions, after you are done talking they will beat or shoot you. So the best thing is to travel in groups, don't leave the lit up areas, and don't talk to strangers. The best thing to do IMO is to get a hotel room downtown so you don't end up parking in the middle of nowhere. Even though we may ull for different sides in this one, I hope everyone stays safe and has a fun weekend.

And if you want a date for the night (or an hour or two), swing by Lamar and Winchester. :air_kiss:

That has been sent in chain emails for years now. Not saying it wasn't true at one time.

I have never heard of the directions one, not saying I have heard them all though.

As for your tips, that can be said for any good sized downtown (and should be common sense), not just Memphis.

All I know is that it happened when I was there, unless the media were all fictional writers.

i thought Camden, NJ (across the river from Philly) was considered the most dangerous place in the country, topping Detroit and Memphis this past year.

That is an urban legend ALL over the country. Hell I remember it being in some episode of a TV show at one point in time. Not at all true.

I live in the Memphis area my wife and daughter were robbed at gun point coming out of a mall over the holidays. Thank God they were not hurt. There are plenty of places I would not go in the Mempho area. Enough of that lets kick some tiger A_ _ ,,,,,,,,,,,,,GO BIG ORANGE
