Favorite Vol Memory

There's just too many from the games to try to begin. But we used to take the boys up up for summer camp and that gave you a great time to catch the players during and after workouts. I've got several years of it on video. Jamal, Al, Peyton. Asked Eric Parker one time who hit harder, Raynoch or Al. He hesitated a minute, and said just as seriously, " Al Wilson will cause you pain but Raynoch will run through you."

My sons are grown but I may go up this year just to watch.

Thanks, guys, for the Vol walk down memory lane. All mentioned are favorites of mine. An additional one was the stuffing of the great All-American L.S.U. running back Billy Cannon, on his 2-point try to win the game on the 1st Saturday in November, 1959. Bill Majors, Wayne Grubb, and Charlie Severence made the stop. It was the Tigers bread-and-butter power play; Cannon over right tackle. L.S.U. rolled in to Knoxville that glorious fall day ranked #1 in the nation. The Vols prevailed, 14 to 13. I was 14 yrs. old, and down on the field. You could do that in those days with the permission of one of Knoxville's finest. Magical times, my friends.

awesome

I might have to change my favorite memory to the NC game when Price one handed the go ahead touchdown pass. My uncle called me seconds after the game and we both could hardly talk we were so excited. He took to me my first UT game when I was about 6 years old, been hooked ever since. He unfortunately lost his life to pancreatic cancer a few years back and I still tear up thinking about him ever so often. thank goodness he didnt have to go thru this Kiffin debacle his last years on this Earth. Rest in peace, Harrell! :cray:

Comeback in Southbend! They had Bettis and all the other big names. We were getting thumped and ND was trying to score a FG just before the half, it was blocked and ran back for a td. We later won on a blocked FG by our big DLs butt. Very humorous ending, but also very big win at Notre Dame.

The Miracle in Southbend.
Yes. My favorite away game ever. I was able to get down on the field after the game.

Some other favorites of mine off the top of my head that I attended in the same era...

'90 Florida beat down
'92 @ UGA. Heath Shuler was unstoppable
'92 Florida in the pouring rain.
'96 Citrus Bowl shutting down Eddie George at the goal line

Some during that era are a bit fuzzy.

Mine would have to be Herschel Walker running over Bill Bates in the opening game of the 1980 season.

My God a Freshman!

YouTube - Georgia's Herschel Walker runs over Tennessee's Bill Bates

Greetings, GATA. I was sitting in the end zone where that happened. Herschel didn't play the 1st half and the Vols were up 15-0 at intermission. He was virtually unstoppable in the 2nd half. The "silver britches" won, 16 to 15. He is one of my favorite players ever and NEVER lifted weight one. He had that God-given natural strength and developed it with push-ups and sit-ups. BTW, I saw an interview with him on ESPN a couple of days ago and he looks as trim as he did in his early twenties. He's training for a MMA fight, if you can believe that. Hell, the man is 48 years old and still looks chiseled. Said he is still doing the same work-out; push-ups and sit-ups. Incredible athlete and a really good person. Can't believe he's gonna' climb in the cage.

1998 Tennessee@Vanderbilt. Stadium was about 95% Orange. The look on the few Vandy fan's faces was priceless. There were even Vol fans in the donor seats.

Johnny Majors beats the Bear in 82.

+1

Then the 41-14 beat down against Bama Peyton's sophomore year. Sugar Bowl 1986 against Miami. NC game against FSU. 91 Notre Dame game. Auburn game when Bo Jackson was a senior.

Mine doesn't involve the play on the field, but a play in the stands.

My son was born in Richmond, KY, (His mother and I were in school at Berea College at the time) and every year we go to the UT / UK game. Every time, he would wear a jacket of the home team and a hat for the visitor.

In 1998, when he was 7, he had on his orange "T" jacket and his blue "K" hat and as we started to set down one of the people around us said something like, "Hey, this is the Tennessee section" playing with him. He took his hat, flung as far as he could and said, "I was born in Kentucky but I'm a Vol!"

The people around us gave him a nice cheer. That's my favorite memory.

The 92 FLA game in the monsoon. I don't even think we were favored to win that game and we blew them out. Another great one was the Arkansas 2000 game where we put up 35 points in the first quarter and revenged the previous year loss

I'm gonna say 82 Bama win was the best because of what it meant to the program at the time and all the near misses we'd had against the Bear in the previous years. The World's Fair was in town that year and the after game party went on for hours.

Kelly Washington aginst LSU. I think it was 2001. It was a night game. We were camping in the Blue Ridge WMA in N. Georgia. I listened to the game on a wavering AM radio signal while sitting in my Toyota pickup with my 13 year old son. He was tired from Mountain Biking on Bull Mountain and struggled mightly to stay awake. Never forget it. Good times.

What about the GA game when Edwards was leading the nation in rushing and broke his foot before the half. Hall kicked the game winner as time expired!!! Or Mose Phillips long TD catch from Shular in the pouring rain in the blowout of the Gators!!! GO VOLS!!!!!

I hung on every word as Munson called it on the radio.

As for the MMA fight. Herschel won on a TKO tonight. The outcome was never in question. He dominated the opponent. Unfrigging believable. Herschel may be the best athlete ever. Period.

As I am only 17 years young, I cannot go back as far as most of you. My favorite memory is probably the '03 'Bama game, and I only heard it on radio. Trust me, listening to 5 OTs on the RADIO is excruciatingly hard!
