Dale Jones was one of the first LB I remember really cheering for. Of course Al is still the top for me

Lots of great ones. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Craig Puki. He was pretty good and also played in the NFL.

Steve "Archie Who?" Kiner.
Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds
Al Wilson and Leonard Little for sure

But there are WAAAYYY too many good ones going back decades.
Long before we were "Wide Receiver U" we were "Linebacker U"!

and Alvin Toles, Dale Jones, Keith DeLong :clapping:

Rico got very little love in this thread. I felt like Rico did a really good job with the players he had around him and was a good ball hawk as well. I think my fav all time (i am a young one too so i dont know some of the older vols) has to be mayo with wilson coming in close second. I cannot imagine looking across the defense and seeing wilson with that tinted shield looking back at me. Must have been a scarey thought

Mine has always been Raynoch Thompson. I've always referred to him as a heat sinking missle.

There are a few good ones out there.

Andy Spiva. What he was able to accomplish will never be broken, even with more games played each season..

Spiva was a beast from what I've heard, but he didn't do to the team what Wilson did.

Jimmy Noonan is one of my All Time Favorite VOLS
Kind of reminded me of Al Wilson, though Noonan played noseman

Greg Jones played MLB and TE at my high school in Bristol, TN in the seventies. They won back to back state titles his Jr and Sr year and had like a 27 game winning streak back then in AAA which was the highest division back in the day. They beat teams like Nashville Overton and Chattanooga Redbank by like 40 pts a game. He's a legend there. The QB, David Bibee also got a scholarship to UT but played DB.
