The Florida and Georgia games usually mean more, but for a guy who vaguely remembers Bear Bryant, there's nothing better than beating Alabama.

For me it's Bama, hands down. I know a few Bammers, and when we beat them, I love being able to rub it in their faces. I'm just going hate it the next time Bama beats us, which I hope is not in the near future. Anyways, my vote goes to Bama.

I'm not familiar enough with the Alabama rivalry, but there are Gator fans here, and I do despise them. So my vote goes to Florida.

Bama won't be down long, and, for me, the juice about beating Florida is leftover from Spurrier.

Beating Florida and Georgia (maybe USC soon) is about winning the SEC East and that'll always be a big deal. Especially with the Dogs so good for the near future.

But of our 3 ancient rivals (Vandy, UK and UA), Alabama is the only one that has been and will be here for the long term. Even in years when one team or the other is rebuilding, the sheer weight of the history and tradition gives the game a charge the others can't match.

In fact, thinking about it, I've actually been kind've bummed about the game these last few years because we were saying, "Well, Bama is struggling but always dangerous in this game," rather than, "Both teams are good, and on the 3rd Saturday in October, who the HELL knows..."

Without question, it's Alabama.

Geography mainly dictates this. In southern middle Tennessee, there are a ton of Bama fans. My sister even married into a Bama family! :yuck: By contrast, there are very few Florida fans. So when we play Florida, everyone is either hating Florida or neutral. But when it's time for Alabama, the trash talking reigns! There's nothing better than coming in on Monday after a big win over Bama and gloating with a big sarastic "Rooooooooooooooll TIDE!"

GA? Nice to beat, but no diferent than Auburn or LSU.
UK? That's a basketball rivalry.
VU? Last time Vandy won, I was ten. TEN!

The law of averages says that we'll lose to UK and VU eventually. Maybe I'll feel differently then. But for right now, these aren't rivalries for us. It's up to them to hold up their end of the rivalry.

The tradition says Alabama, but the hate says Florida

Oh, but the "hate" says Bama, too, my friend. Gators are in the downward spiral (back where they came from AND belong) and Bama is certainly toughening up -- give it a couple of years and people 'round here won't even remember that this was a question.

bama no doubt we could go 1 and 12 and it would be a winning season if the 1 was Bama

Bama will be very good next year--definitely better than they were this year. Of course, with two very good, experienced QBs, we'll be much better also. As always, next year's game will be one to remember.

#1 Alabama -- tradition, border war, etc. It's love-hate for me.

#2 UGA -- posers, hate 'em. Hated 'em as much during our long win streak as I did during their streak the last few years.

#3 Auburn -- tradition here, too. They have great fans. This used to be THE early SEC game...national coverage.

$4 Florida -- it's funny. We in the SEC didn't acknowledge UF as much of a football anything until Spurrier got there. You have to remind Florida fans that SEC football did, in fact, exist before 1990. And, they were the South Carolina of today.

Gotta be in thsi order: Gators, Georgia and Bama. Following that is either Notre Dame or Miami-whenever we play them. Gotta beat the Gators and UGA to win the SEC East. :good:

Games against the SEC:
Kentucky 99
Vanderbilt 97
Alabama 87
Ole Miss 61
Auburn 48
Miss State 42
Florida 34
Georgia 34
LSU 27
South Carolina 23
Arkansas 14

 There are only 2 schools in the SEC that have a winning record versus the Vols. They are Alabama and Auburn. Also, Alabama is the only SEC school with a winning record over the Vols in Knoxville. Alabama is played every year, while Auburn is on the rotating schedule.

Florida
SERIES RECORD: Tennessee leads 19-15
AT KNOXVILLE: Tennessee leads 11-7
AT GAINESVILLE: Florida leads 7-5
AT NEUTRAL SITES: Tennessee leads 3-1

RECORDS AGAINST OTHER SEC SCHOOLS
Arkansas 12-2
Kentucky 67-23-9
LSU 19-5-3
Ole Miss 42-18-1
Miss State 26-15-1
South Carolina 19-2-2
Vanderbilt 66-26-5

Throwing my two cents in. Beating UT and Alabama Polytechnical Institute (Allbarn's official name) are two different animals. I respect UT and like your traditions. Allbarn I just plain hate. They will always be Alabama's snot nosed kid brother (even this year). Beating UT is a source of pride beating Allbarn is the way things are supposed to be. Everyone knows Alabama and Tennessee, most of the nation thinks Allbarn is some school in Georgia.

Got to be Bama. The first Bama game I went to was 1982. I was sophomore at UT and got in the crowd that carried the goal post out of Neyland Stadium out to Volunteer up Cumberland Ave and set it down at the crest of the hill at the intersection of Cumberland and 17th St. What a party :p

In 93, I was in Palm Springs CA in a bar watching the UT/UA game. We were dominating but not scoring enough. David Palmer (off one of his DUI's I'm sure) got that 2 point conversion to tie it up. Believe it or not, there was a Bama fan (with a Bama shirt) in the same bar. What are the odds. It was a heart breaker for sure. Since I've moved to Birmingham (99) things have been good. I dread a return to a Bama win streak :bad:

That Bama in 82 was my first Bama game.

Can't think of a better way to start can you? :rocks: :rocks:

Although I seem to remember Walter Lewis throwing into the endzone at the end of the game with a chance to tie it up.

After the goal post party on Cumberland Ave. I went to see Smokin' Dave and the Premo Dopes (or were they still the Real Hostages then?) at Hobo's. Oh the brain cells that I destroyed that 3rd Sat. in Oct.
