Thinking of the upcoming game as well as the outcome from last year got me to thinking....does anyone have a favorite example of a team coming into any game grossly over-rated and then getting drilled?

I have one in particular....Penn St. vs. Arizona 1999. Arizona was pre-season #4 and Penn St. was #3. Everyone in the media was all over Arizona, the had a 2 QB system that was supposed to be great and a stud defense, most of then picked Arizona to win big...

Well...Lavar Arrington, Courtney Brown and co. proceeded to beat them 41 -7. I for one love it when something like this happens

I remember that game, one of the few times in the last few years that penn state came through.

well.... this wasn't a drubbing, but last year's FSU/Miami game where the commentators kept raving about how awesome the defenses were when it was blatantly obvious that both offenses were just awful. it was like watching crippled old men race in a 100 yard dash.

BYU's upset over Miami when Ty Detmer was QB. Can't remember the year, but it was a drubbing, and highly unexpected by most.

My game that comes to mind is the 1986 Sugar Bowl :) I know it wasnt a preseason matchup...but it was still great having to hear for a month how great Miami was and that Tennessee didnt stand a chance

I think that this year's BCS championship between Florida and Ohio State is about as stark an example you could possibly have of such a situation.

My roomate from my freshman year here was from Ohio. He saw UF play in person in 04. He had to go back to Ohio State (tution was too much) and he told everyone that would listen that UF was going to beat them.

He was here for a year and learned to fear the SEC :p

One that comes to mind, a few years ago when bama was ranked 3rd going into the year and 3 straight losses put them out of the top 25, (fastest fall ever). Couldn't have happened to a nicer team.

Not a drubbing by any means, but a few years ago when Miami was all-world and hadn't lost a game in a year or so, and played in the championship game against Ohio State who must have averaged only 17 points or something all year.
