1991 Miracle at South Bend
I was 8, and before that, I would watch the games with my dad because it was his team. I remember hearing the NBC announcers saying "Notre Dame is just in another league right now," and then after the blocked kick, they truly became my team. I have routed for other teams, including my current school, but UT is my team, and nothing gives me chills like a blocked field goal when we need it (UK last week, ND years ago).
06 Cal = Amazing atmosphere. The team and the fans took out the frustration on that football team that day.
Agree whole-heartedly. It was as if the fans just wanted (and needed) to cheer for them and they gave it all to us. The pure joy Vol fans were feeling after that game made me glad I came in for it. I really think the noise level in that game was 2nd only to UF in 98.
It may be bad form to quote yourself, I'm sure someone will let me know, but I wonder:I have two memories that stand out, neither had to do with the actual football game.
In 98, my daughter was being recruited by Sousa for the band/Music dept. We got to walk with the band to the stadium and Salute to the Hill. Wonderful experience for me and my daughter, she got sit with the band.
At a game a couple or so years ago (don't remember the team) They had the Scottish Drum Corp play at halftime, and when they played Amazing Grace, I started singing along, and so did others. It seemed like most the people were singing eventually. I couldn't hold back the tears, then or now, it was so moving for me.
It may be bad form to quote yourself, I'm sure someone will let me know, but I wonder:
Did anyone else go to that game?
Do you remember which game?
Did you have a similar experience?
Thanks for your indulgence.
I remember standing with my Dad outside Stokely looking for tickets to the last home game for Ernie Grundfeld and Bernard King. A man handed me a ticket for a seat on the floor under the basket just a few feet away from the end of the TN bench.
I was probably in 6th or 7th grade and thus old enough to really be infatuated with everything Orange. It was a great game and I had a chance to shake the hands of both Ernie and Bernie.
