Probably one of my favorite calls by John would be the Notre Dame game in South Bend. Remember when Leonard was up to kick the winning field goal and John Ward says" It's good ! no ! it is no good ! it is no good!:peace2:

I like the Mose Phillips call against South Carolina in '92.

A call way back when William Howard of Lima, Ohio was 1 of the Vols big backs. The play was basically a fake pass/sprint draw. It totally caught the defense by suprise with a huge hole, plenty of running room and after taking the hand-off he basically fell on his face. John Ward asked Bill Anderson his opinion following the play....''Well John he took the handoff and with an acre of running room he simply fell down.''

That's one of my first memories of Vol football. :rock:

"Pandemonium Reigns!!!" enough said with that one. Another favorite is..."and the National Championship is clad in Orange!!"

I always liked how he desribed rbs, "and steward carries four guys out of bounds" Probably my best though is, "Its football time in Tennessee" the first game of every year.

I remember one year when Richmond Flowers was the fastest guy on the team (and probably one of the two fastest players in the SEC at the time, along with Kent Lawrence of Georgia). I don't remember the specific game, but Flowers caught a pass over the middle and ran away from the defenders after breaking a tackle. I'll never forget John Ward saying "Caught by Flowers! Breaks a tackle! He's in the open field! Watch that rocket roar! They simply won't catch him!" They didn't, of course. They had to give him six:dance2:.

Ward was a tremendous asset to Tennessee football. He made the games seem bigger than life. Hearing him say "It's football time in Tennessee!" always made it feel like a charge of electricity was flowing right through me.

I'm not sure I can remember it perfectly. Something like

"It's going to be a pass. The pass is intercepted! And being returned to the 10, the 5, Touchdown Tennessee. Who else? Carl Pickens!"

I remember tn basketball when gary carter hit the winning shot against american university..dont remember the year but i guess this means im old
