Favorite basketball player of all time

I am surprised that Tom Boerwinkle has not been mentioned even once by anyone yet. The guy was an All-American and played 10 years in the NBA for the Bulls.

Boerwinkle went higher in the NBA draft than any other Vol including King, Grunfeld, Ellis, or Houston.

Dane Bradshaw: kid had almost nothing to give but gave everything every time he was on the floor. He just loved to play for the VOLS. Would love to see some way he could come back on staff some day.

Loften for his heart
Dyron Nix because he was the first UT BBall player I really remember watching a lot.
Bradshaw because of the way he left it all on the court. Even tho he wasn't the most talented guy he got everything he could out of every minute.

Chris Lofton. Had a down year for him while dealing with the effects of cancer and I never heard a word about it until he was finished playing. Many would have used that as an excuse.

I didn't get into UT basketball until about 2004, so my favorites would have to be Wayne Chism, Chris Lofton, and Dane Bradshaw. We all love Lofton, period. Bradshaw was the heart of that team his senior year. Chism played hard and always looked like he was having a blast, not to mention when he would hit a 3 and everyone would go absolutely nuts!!!!!

When he caught it in transition, at the top of the key, that might as well been a layup. I miss Weezy

Willie Burton (if you never watched him, think Ron Slay without the craziness.)
Tony White (IMO 2nd best scorer in UT history, King #1)
Michael Brooks (Because he destroyed UK)
Stevie Hamer (Super nice guy)

Houston is Tennessee's all time leading scorer. King is fourth behind Houston, White and Ellis, iirc.

Edit: just realized you wrote imo. I see the distinction.

Slay and his Magical Headband. His FU attitude just cemented the position.

I would say that many who saw Bernard play would admit he was the greatest Vol to ever play basketball but I believe just as many would not name him as their favorite player due to all the off the court stuff that almost ruined his career. Big difference between being the best and the favorite. Easily my two favorite Vols are Allan Houston based on the fact he is probably the 2nd best Vol to ever play the game with no off the court issues and Marcus Haislip who had absolutely no clue how to play the game of basketball but was just so talented athletically that he was fun to watch.
