Fans of other schools what are you thoughts?

It depends on how recent the history is. Bama and Florida both had national success recently enough that recruits and coaches and sportswriters all knew they were powers, even if the past 5 years hadn't been quite as stellar. UT is in a similar situation, but if you were giving the nod today, Texas and Florida would have an advantage; that is all I was trying to say.

If Mack Brown and Urban Meyer were to step down right now, then of course those jobs would be more appealing than UT. But if we were to look at which job were to be more appealing: Florida 2005, Bama 2007, or UT 2008, I would say it would be almost a tie with Florida having a slight edge due to where they're located.

Currently, UT is the hottest job in the market. Even after the end of this season, I don't see any schools competing with UT to get the coach we want (except maybe Auburn).

See my posts elsewhere. In a nutshell:

1) This was inevitable.

2) It will take UT 3-4 years to be competitive with the top of the SEC again, but I think UT fans by and large accept that.

3) It will happen. UT will be a power once again. But as I say it will take a few years.

4) The UT head coaching job is not a premier job. But its a very, very good job. I think there will be a lot of interest, especially since as I say I think the fans will give the new hire a break for at least three years to rebuild things.

5) Fulmer is subtly blaming the players for this season and, to some extent, his demise.

Overall, happy for you guys. UT will be back and this had to happen, first.

I don't agree with him either, but you asked for the man's feedback and he gave it to you.

I would rank the openings as 1) Clemson, 2) Tennessee, and 3) Auburn.

A good coach could get very rich without much fuss at Clemson. The SEC comes with much more pressure.

I said that none of the better jobs were open in an earlier post. I'm not sure what your argument is. I think Bama and Florida are better jobs than UT when measured with some theoretical, hypothetical, idealistic scale. Neither are open, just as UT wasn't in '05 or '07, and there isn't a coach in the world who is going to turn down Knoxville to wait for Meyer or Saban to get struck by lightning, so we aren't competing with them.

You are on my last nerve!

How long did it take Saban?

Dumbest thing you've ever written.

No, he's not.

Saban found lightning in a bottle. Even Bama fans thought they were a year away. Give me a break. If you aren't patient you will wind up with bigger problems. Zook only made it 3 years.

also, the whole "i hate fulmer because he caught us cheating" mindset is ridiculous. get over it.

Don't get me wrong, we deserve what happened to us. But the fact that Philbilly was the one pointing his sausage fingers in our direction plus the whole "Alabama football will be irrelevant soon" comment makes me dislike him.

i'm pretty sure that several coaches in the SEC knew it was going on, including Spurrier. phil just pressed the button first

As a Bama fan I suffered some humiliation and realize what you guys have endured. Be thankful the admistration finally made the move.

As a Wildcat fan, I'm shocked that it didn't happen sooner. You are with football as we are with basketball. Find a coach that will help you win.

I hate that someone started a thread asking what people other than Tennessee fans think but now that its started I suppose nothing can be done about it till its closed.

It may get real ugly before its over though.

It was the right choice, i love CPF to death and the 90's were amazing, we were the powerhouse of college football, but times have changed. The talent is at Tennessee, its in players that you wouldn't expect it from. We just need a new OC and a new HC to come in and work with them and polish that talent. I saw crompton 2 years ago at the LSU game where he came in, I was so excited to see him start this year, but it seemed like the kid hasn't done anything since the LSU game in 06. The job is a premier job, we have a huge LOYAL fan base. We dont hate on a bad season, we hate on several bad seasons in a row. We put up the money to see our guys play no matter what, we make the drive from all across tennessee to see them no matter what the record is. But its almost painful to wear even a UT hat, cause we all know we are better than this. Go hire a young guy that will come in and discipline the ever living hell out of some of these kids and fire them up! We need another Trooper Taylor!

I agree 110%! Discipline is the key to having a GREAT footballl team. Trooper Taylor was awesome!! Also, what a chance for the new recruits coming in to show the nation what we are made of. I'm looking forward to this new era in UT football!

Screw Foolmer. As a BAMMER I could care less about Phail. What BAMA got caught doing is no different than what other major universities do. They just got caught. Karma bit ol' Phlabby Foolmer right in the hizasss. BAMA did the crime and the time. It's nothing but sunny days ahead. You TN fans will know what it is like to suck for several consecutive years. Take it from someone who has been there.

Premier:

USC, tOSU, Michigan, Texas, Alabama.

Very good:

Florida, Tennessee, FSU, Miami, Clemson, Arizona, LSU

Those are examples.

Do you know how stupid you sound?

Even ESPN gave the TN job a A+

and Michigan You really are stupid!!!!!

Not sure if this has been mentioned before (i'm not going to read all of the posts to see if it has), but a premier/good job is solely in the eyes of the beholder. If you'll remember back to OSU coaching search several years ago, nobody wanted that job, they basically settled for Tressel, turned out well for them, but nobody wanted it. Same with Bama and Michigan, both schools started to look pretty ordinary as their coaching search drug on and on. And if Bama was such a great job (and I'm not saying it isn't one of the best), then why did they go through such trouble with Shula, Dubose, and even Franchione who by the way LEFT BAMA for what was percieved as a better job in his eyes.

You lost a lot of credibility with some of the schools you included and then did not include. Where's Penn State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Oklahoma? All schools with much larger football tradition than Clemson and Arizona (which I already noticed you said was a mistake to include).

Just look at the 10-15 winningest programs of all time and there you go as the best jobs. And by the way, premier jobs don't generally open up when that school is on top of the world, except for LSU, because as we all know, Saban follows the cash.
