I believe I gave my definition, which is sustained success. The premier teams I mentioned have had it and really never are out of the national title hunt for more than a few years at a time and all are having some current success, too. Florida is on the verge, I agreed with Jay.

UT has been off the radar for long enough that it doesn't rate premier anymore, IMO, if it at some point did.

Its all subjective.

I think who you attract defines "premier". Our next coach will give us an indication of how "premier" the job is viewed by the coaching world. I'll wait and see, although my personal belief is that the lack of local high school talent drops it down a notch in coaching interest.

For those of you who think we are going to be good right away you need your head checked. If we get the wrong guy in it could set us back 10 years. Do I think this will happen,no. But in reality we may not win more than 7 games the next 3 years.

By that criteria, USCwest isn't a premeir job. They sucked for like 25 yrs.

Florida is like "new money". Not enough of a past to be taken too seriously!

Secondly, I think it is completely possible that your #2 happens. We could end up with a Zook or Shula experience. I hope not and think we have the talent in the ranks -- except offensive line.

Heck, look at Michigan.

Considering UA has never even been to a rose bowl i think we can safetly assume it isn't a elite job. The following in the pac-10 are better:

Cal, Oregon, UW, ASU, UCLA, USC

I don't think any of this "premier" talk means anything unless every school in the nation is looking for a new head coach next year. UT will be a premier vacancy, so unless these unemployed coaches want to wait a few years until FLA, USC, or Michigan drop their coaches, I guess we've got a better chance than most!

1 i agree with; 2/3 are the same but i agree since i love our fans but we're impatient right now so; i disagree w/ 4 in the sense that i wouldnt call it a premier job due to the quarrels right now but at the same time it's right under that ... feel there's a better wording than very good

and 5, i dont think he's blaming his players; that's one thing the guy would never do and that's why the people who played for him liked him so much; it's not in his character to blame the players

While I hate Bama as much as the next UT guy, I'm tired of our fans looking uneducated when it comes to Bama and Saban. Nick Saban took a pay CUT to go to Alabama, so the "highest bidder" thing that our fans continually say looks both childish and out of touch with reality.

Lawgator is correct, it probably will take 3 to 4 years before we can even hope to be at the top of the pile again in the SEC. But, we WILL get there.............

saban was 2 years, but he also had the good stockhold of recruits that bama had from shula's term, especially when he gave them that 10-2 year; bama was already on the brink, they just needed the right coach to put them over the edge

Because every coach/player/fan of the SEC likes seeing one of its top programs being a disappointment and making the entire league look bad...yeah, that's what they all want.

(Not saying that's going to happen to UT, by the way)

Saban was on his way out of Miami and he knew it. He found out the hard way that he is a college coach

Actually, I'm not sure what "premier" means. It has been posted numerous times on the site, but I'd put the Tennessee job at somewhere between the 8th and 15th best job in the country, all things considered. I'd put Florida somewhere in that top 8.

You are wrong, I am a lifelong Dolphins fan and he wasn't on the hotseat, YET. He had at least another year to turn it around. Any way you slice it, 5 million is WAY more than 3.5 million, which was his first year salary at Alabama.
