fans leaving early

When you are in your 7th decade and have a 2.5 hour drive home well past your normal bedtime and the game is well in hand and you remain through the entire game, then I will agree with your post. Until then do not castigate people for their actions without knowing all of the specifics.

Absolutely. Also our fans are the last thing that should be criticized after all the losing we have had to put up with during the last decade - and we still keep supporting our team far more than just about any other school.

I left in the 4th, and if the 1st stringers had a chance, I'm sure they would have left early too.

It's hard for me to believe the players were on the sidelines disappointed that people started leaving when they were up 8 TD's and the third stringers were playing.

I don't like it either. Never understood why people don't stay and support their team. But.......it's not just UT. Did any of you stay up for the Alabama game? I did because they were losing and early in the 4th qtr. after Ole Miss went up 43-24, the cameras showed the Alabama fans leaving in mass exodus. The stadium was less than half full and Alabama almost came back to win. Boy would they have been disappointed they missed it. I would have been more disappointed if they had come back. LOL

My dad actually did that at the Miracle at South Bend game. He left at halftime. Didn't find out the Vols had came back and won until the next day.

Why do people insist on having the who is a better fan debate? Enjoy the game how you want to enjoy it.

Did you see the fourth quarter? Every play was a run up the middle I think. Boring.

Punishing Dormady for not throwing it in the dirt when forced out of the pocket.
wouldn't want to start a QB controversy.

I don't see a problem for lesser opponents such as WCU. I would be furious if fans had left the OU game in droves, but when you play weaker opponents and the score is 55-3 at the start of the 4th, you should expect a bunch of run, run, run plays and that's just boring to watch.

Also, I don't think that the players are going to hold it against anyone that people left early for a blowout win. If anything, they should be mystified and proud that after such a collapse against Okalahoma, there were still 102,000 fans at kickoff as they ran out of the T. I know I was a little surprised as well, and so was Butch. I expected maybe 90,000 at the game after such a huge loss. This is why we are the best fanbase, so there is no need to knock people leaving early.

Once Dormady stopped throwing...were really wasn't a reason to stay. You got to watch UT eat up a lot of clock.

If I was in Knoxville, I would have stayed for the whole game, but it doesn't bother me if people leave.

One of the things I have always enjoyed about cheering on the Vols at Neyland is the feeling that as a fan, we have influence on the outcome of the game. Getting loud when the team is on D, esp. 3rd down, watching the team respond to the crowd. It's a special place.

I just have to say that I hate...hate it...when fans leave early. I cannot imagine a good excuse - beat traffic? traffic home is part of the experience, you plan for it. Team is losing badly? they're still your team, cheer them on. They blow out the opponent? great! it's a W! stay and let them know you appreciate the effort.

I travel from out of state to see 1 game a year - we saw the WC game just because the price was right. Had an amazing day - but the worst part for me was watching the fans clear out starting in the 2nd quarter.

I'm sure people have whined about this on this site before... i just don't get it.

Is that you, Nick??

The game was the same run up the middle for 1.5 quarters pretty much. I wouldn't have stayed either to watch that crap

You travel in for one game per season, and decide to cast judgement on fan attendance. That's quite rich.

I left at the end of the 3rd. It's WCU. Why would I stay to watch them score on our 4th string? I paid for my tickets and decided I saw all I needed to. So I went home and watched Alabama lose.
