I’m not saying they are the worst I’m saying they wouldn’t start over what others have. So they aren’t coveted by other teams. You are putting words in my mouth and making assumptions. I’ve seen nothing outside of TS that says we have better talent outside of Vandy and our record proves it
No real fan was as sick as I was after the loss, but what we all have to understand is JP was handed the keys to a 65 rambler and had to take it to a nascar track, right now we don't have what it takes to compete, but if everyone will give JP time we will have what it takes to compete, but it will at least 3 years to be at the level where we can compete, and 4 before we can compete for SEC championship just give the man a chance sit back the ride is going to be bumpy for a while but it will get better much much better. GO VOLS!!!
I have to admit I'm with ya. 1st TD by WV Abernathy had a straight shot at the receiver Timmons on the crossing route and just slid right off of him. Timmons didn't even break stride. Pruitt attempted several times to blitz from Grier's right and that's a no-no. Grier ran the RPO at least twice and he and the RB just stood there while he made his read like he had all day,(embarrasing). Osbourne gave up a 3rd down pass that went for about 30 yds when we had WV pinned deep in their territory. Looked to me like Osborne could have easily made that tackle as soon as the receiver caught the ball. Osborne off-side on FG attempt that failed gave WV six more free points. At the end of that drive Grier found open receiver on a slant route which our DB simply gave them. Easy to play inside the receiver that close to the Goal line and take away the short slant,(bump him at LOS). Buchannon got confused when WV lined up 2 TE's on his side and defensive playcaller called a different set,(tampa 2 ?) and WV's running back came to that side on a wheel route, all alone for 6 more points. Flowers was caught flat-footed playing safety after Pruitt blitzed the covering corner on a TD pass. There was some more but overall it was bad. Realistically the final score should have been 33-21 but conservative play-calling on offense held us back. As it turned out WV's big weakness was their pass defense and UT would have fared much better by continuing to keep popping the short underneath routes which were wide-open. UT's loss was a combination of poor play calling and poor technique, mostly by DB's. A.Taylor played well for a freshman. I have some optimism for our front 7 on D getting better but our DB's are in for a long year. We'll have to win the close games on offense and that will be a challenge.Regardless of the final score, I expected more physicality and intensity from our team. I expected to see a team fired up to prove that last year's 4-8 season was a fluke and show everybody that we are better than what the record showed. I expected to see a team with a "killer" instinct that would swarm to the ball on defense and maul people on the O-Line. However I didn't see any of that at all on Saturday. I saw a team that looked lethargic and flat out weren't mentally focused and ready to play this game. How in the world do you come out this way on the first game of the season? That IS on coaching. Compare this game to say, the 2014 Oklahoma game. It was clear that OU was better than we were talent wise, but we played hard in that game and laid licks until the final whistle. THAT is what I wanted to see in this first game but we didn't show up to play. Would it have made a difference on the scoreboard? I don't know. However that is what disappointed me and what I can't get out of my head. We didn't look properly prepared for this game.
The SEC screwed up a bit by not putting Mizzoui in the west division and putting Auburn in the east, IMO. Would have made the balance of strength much closer. No, Tennessee doesn't have great talent. There's probably only a handful of Vols that would start on Mizzou. Maybe Smith, Warrior and some front 7 guys, and we'd be happy to add Tim Jordan to our backfield, (and JG would be a great backup and future starter). Star ratings only mean so much, and a 6-6 record won't be an indictment on Pruitt.
The good thing about this season for Vol fans is that there's no pressure on Tennessee and you get to watch guys like JG and Jordan grow. It's nice to have a top level team but it's also relaxing to not have pressure of high expectations.
I loved Tennessee's football history before we entered the conference, and it's amazing that we now get to play every year. This game should always be played on the third Saturday in November. I love UT's classic uniforms, they really clash with MU's modern style, perfect for both teams

I noticed that. It made them tentative like a little uncertainty if they were doing things right. Surely they'll grow out of that quickly. A win vs UF would be the best thing that could happen to this team and I hope like heck we are better prepared going into that game.As much as I hate to admit it, I expected a W for Tennessee. I think had we faced the same defense WVU had last year the game would be closer. One disadvantage Pruitt had to deal with was not knowing what kind of impact the transfers on WV defense would have. They were a lot quicker than anyone expected, advantage WV. Some on here think Tennessee doesn't have speed on the back end but I would counter by saying our freshman DB's were having to think instead of react. I hope their learning curve is small.
This board is hacked six ways from Sunday. I can hardly write a post without three new windows appearing and my post disappearing. Whatup?

Yeah, but if we had blown out a cupcake in game 1, as fans we would have a way overblown opinion on how good our team actually is, like the fans of several other SEC teams are feeling right now after blowing out cupcakes last Saturday. While the loss sucked, as any loss does, the fans, but more importantly the staff and players, learned a whole lot more about the team's strengths and weaknesses last Saturday, and the team as a whole now knows where it is and what needs to be done to improve. Now we have 2 weeks against lesser teams to work on some of those issues before SEC play begins.

We're all extremely disappointed in the lopsided loss to WV, but in all honesty it was expected. While we had hoped to see the Vols put up more of a fight against the Mountaineers, it was readily apparent that they were outmatched by a more talented football team and perhaps that's what hurt the most.
Emotions run extremely high with the start of every football season, even when last year's team was labeled the worst in Tennessee history.
I competed in competitive sports for a good portion of my life, but like many Vol fans, sometimes forget, that as let down as we were about the game, it's the players that shoulder the loss and suffer the most.
The players are the ones that have put in the hard work of training, lifting weights, running and struggling to be the best that they can be.
I sometimes forget as a fan, that no one was as disappointed in the loss, as the players that were on the field last Saturday.
Behind the scenes, Pruitt and the Vols are working their tails off to become the team we all want them to be.
Go Vols
There is maybe one guy on our starting 22 that would start for any other SEC school. That is what CBJ left us with
