I've been fumin' over this since the Cal game and then after goin' to the LSU game it irritated me even more. I've been able to fight off sayin' anything thus far but I guess now's the time. WTF I am a respectful and passionate UT fan. I have to say that my experiences this year at our beloved stadium was great on the field and sh!tty in the stands. Almost to the point that I've kicked around the idea of only going to away games. Scenario Cal game: I am the fan that doesn't drink too much, wears a tie, and tries to watch out and consider the folks around me. 5 minutes into the 1st 1/4, seated in the season tic/alum section, I get grief for standing up. That continued throughout the entire game. I paid alot of money and drove a long way to see that game and thought maybe, just maybe that the team would appreciate some enthusiasm. Not only was I told to sit down I was questioned as to where I got my tickets. I appologized to a fellow fan and extended my hand only to have him pull away and say no way( at that point I responded in a not so favorable manor). FF: LSU game not as sweet seats. Tryin to get to my seat for the first time of the day, invited by the first person in the row to find my seat and stay in it. WTF it's a football game w/ 107,000+ get over yourself. Just before half time decided to approach my row from other side so not to irritate the aformentioned "fan". Got some fella in his mid 50's sayin': "If you're goin' go now, get outta my way" I replied "thanks for the patience" to which he replied " I ain't got none". It got ugly from there. I told him "This is Neyland stadium, if you hate being around people feel free to watch the game from your La-Z-Boy" etc. I got good laughs from other folks that he had offed up to that point but that did not lessen the effects of his unwarranted attack. It nearly ruined my day and LSU took care of the rest. Something needs to change in Knoxville and it starts with the fans. I'm sorry to be so long winded but there wasn't really a shorter way to put it. We're all Vols come on act right.

I agree. If fans in the stands have any derogatory comments to make towards other fans cheering on the team they need to be told that if they don't like the environment they SHOULD just stay home and watch it on the tube and they wouldn't get so aggravated.

Things are great in the student section:good!: I'm not looking forward to the days I have to pay and sit down. I love looking like an idiot with 20,000 other kids. I don't understand why you would pay to do the same thing you could do in your home. The only word of advice I can give is "Keep on keepin on" Don't let them old a$$es take your enthusiasm!

i agree voloholic... I live in texas so i dont get to go to many games... i went to 3 this year but didnt experience any of that because i sat in the student section.. a few years ago though, my family and i went and got seats in the nose bleeds right in front of this old couple.. they were nice at first but then the game started and i would stand up quite a bit because i like to help the team out.. he constantly told me to sit down and i would cause i was 13 yrs old and he was an elder.. finally i stood up again and he put his hand on me and pushed me down.. my step dad then pushed his hand away and told him not to touch me again.. i stood up the rest of the game.. i dont take that crap anymore...

Me either . . . I've heard stories about stuff like this, but I've never actually seen people tell others to sit down unless somebody was truly being obnoxious and was the only person standing up in the section for no apparent reason.

Personally, I haven't either. However, there have been plenty of incidences accounted here on this board and a young Rebel fan who works at a supply house here in Memphis that I talked into going to the game last year came back with some less than complimentary stories about the behavior he encountered in the stands at Neyland, although he said everything was fine outside the stadium prior to the game.

The only time I've ever seen something like this happen was when I was about 14 and I sat with a friend who was a Georgia fan. We had a guy behind us tell my friend to sit down. The funny thing was the whole section turned on the man for trying to intimidate a kid. :)

Well it's a 107,000 people in the middle of Appalachia. You're gonna find some  every once in a while. You want bad fans, go to a Florida, LSU, or Georgia game.

georgia especially..... MY GOD!!!! I went to the uga ut game this past year. After we handed it to them, my friends (all UGA fans) and I were driving back home when we pulled up to a stop light. I had my window down and a UT shirt on, and the lady next to us in the other car started screaming about how much she hated "that f'ing rocky top song." ........So I started singin :)

I have not had too many bad experience with vol fans, but with Neyland holding 107,000 the people there are not half as crazy or loud as it is in death valley (lsu) or the swamp...we got too many old azz pricks that show no enthuaism

at least we dont sing "ive been working on a railroad" otherwise known as "glory glory":yahoo:

man you have no idea, that song is crack to people down here.
Also, for some reason, EVERY UGA FAN here thinks that mstafford is gonna win the heisman.......I'm not kidding, it's that bad.

ya, only difference is it hardly EVER gets quite in the swamp or better yet, Death Valley....I went to the vandy game in 05 when we lost to them...I actually went to 2 games that year, and I know we sucked, but I have never seen such a lack of emotion from anyone...the stadium was deathly quite

..oh trust me i know, my entire family lives in athens, i have to deal with their crap all the time....as for Stafford, the dude has a cannon for a arm, but before he even thinks heisman he needs to have receivers that can catch something.

I'm not going to lie I have chewed out Vol fans for standing up and raising fuss before.....

because the idiots were doing it when we had the ball before the snap count. Anyone.....no exceptions....that is trying to get people loud when we have the ball pre-snap count should be kicked square in their ass and never let in Neyland again.

I cannot count the games where some idiot is getting loud when we have the ball and turns around and says....

"Ohhhhh come on get up come on GO VOLS!!!!!! You're not fans, OFFENSE!! OFFENSE!!"

To that guy I just want to stoot smack the living **** out of him. That is my #1 pet peeve.

I can understand that b/c I have been around that before...the usually old, arrogant, just flat out dumb fan who knows nothing but yet thinks he does...thinks every play is a hold, thinks every pass is pass interference...gah, its so annoying

I have met "that guy"...... Not cool. BUT I would have to say the old man behind you that snorts (or whatever) at you bc you're obstructing his view pisses me off the most. The guy cheering at least has some spirit, although ill advised.

Exactly. I sat next to one with his wife and this dude was filling his wife in on all the football jargon and all that. It was truly embarrassing and he was "that guy" that wanted 107,000 strong raising hell when Casey Clausen went under center.

Since his wife was there I figured I could hold my tounge and not start anything but he got on my last nerve and I as nice as I could explained why no one was standing up and cheering with him. He got all pissy and had wise ass comments but eventually quit. When I think of that kind of fan that dude and his patchy facial hair and anoying "yelling" voice are my mental image for life.

..and on Clausen's defense, I hate how everything that bad happened when Clausen was QB was Clausen's fault...now I know he did some pretty idiotic things, but he was not the only one....I just hear so many TN fans blaming like everything on him....its more than one dude...well except for that one rain game vs florida a couple yrs back...clausen fumbled like 7 times that game..no exaggeration

I think you're missing my point. The guy wanted every one cheering for the offense before the ball had been snapped. Clausen just happened to be the QB at that game. No one was downing Clausen.
