Fans are the problem?

don't let people sell you that line of bull.

we had fireronzook.com for crying out loud.

any coach worth a crud wants to be at a school that cares and will pay because they care. because places that care present opportunities to win.

this "the fans are the problem" is a bunch of nonsense. i'm sure potential head coach candidates for tennessee will be shocked that fans were not happy with losing

99, you've been bringing it for the last few days. :good!:

Blaming the fans is nothing but utter nonsense. If this program gets its head on straight, the fans will be lined up for tickets. How can you blame people for not wanting to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars to watch us get whipped by every team worth a crap for three years straight? That would be the equivalent of blaming patrons for a theater going out of business when everything on the screen is a flop.

Bottom line: if this change happens (and I really think it will), the Spring game will be electric (e.g. Kiffin hire) and we will fill Neyland next September.

My buddy (a Vandy grad) said that the problem now is that the media and the fans have soured so much on Dooley, that he will fail this year. He suggested that if the media and fans had a positive outlook, that the Vols could win out. He thinks that even though Vandy is not close to the Vols in talent, they will finish with a better record because of the difference in attitude on the team which is picked up from the attitudes of the fans and media.

I remember a time when 7-4 was an AWFUL season. NOW 7 wins is a successful season, and that's a damn shame.

That was well said. We have every right to love the Vols and still be ashamed of the product that has been on the field for these past few years

Bama, fl, and ga all have winning streaks on us and we have sucked for the past 4 seasons. We're also about to lose our third coach in 5 years. Despite this, last I checked there were about 100k that still showed up last saturday for the eminent @ss whipping that everyone knew was coming. Fans ain't the problem here, and they never will be.

Fans have nothing todo with recruiting losses. If they hire the right coach this is a non issue. OUR RECRUITING IS RANKED BEHIND PENN STATE!!!! and Vandy. SO ya i think thats a non issue.

Why do people keep freaking out about this well in advance of signing day? We were apparently losing to them this time last year and still pulled out the higher ranked class. The sky isn't falling.

I have heard a number of people today on sports talk radio call in and talk about fans and media being the issue. Talking about the negativity of the fans and media driving recruits away, and dragging down the confidence of this team. So what happened during the Florida game? The fans and media were all behind this team. We were ranked, and we were back. This town was buzzing and it felt like the late 90's again. Then, this team quit. They gave up. They got hit in the mouth by a good Florida team, and they ran from the fight. So next time someone says it's the fans and media, everyone remember the day the fans and media were all behind this team, and they quit.

Wow. Looking back, I can hardly believe I was so excited. I really though we were going to compete for an SEC championship this season. :shakehead:

it's a relative thing. obviously we should finish higher than Vanderbilt and Penn State. If we hired a junior high school coach to recruit, we should finish higher than those two. The problem is that we're even at that level. It shouldn't be remotely close at any point. It just shows that we're closer to the bottom of the SEC these days than we are to the top. And that we can expect another recruiting class ranked 8th in the SEC.

The 2012 signing class was ranked 17th in the entire country on rivals. It's not like we took in a ton of 2 stars or anything.

When was the last time they were ranked behind Vandy?

I know we are not going to research all that but come on man you know there is no way they should ever be behind Vandy no matter what time it is.

Im not chicken little but when would you consider the sky falling?

Fans will support you, make excuses for you, and even love you but their patience is not long.

When we actually FINISH behind them in recruiting classes. As long as we keep pulling in bigger fish than they do, I don't give a damn about class rankings in July, October, or even January. It's how the classes pan out in February that matters.

You must be listening to the Sports Animal. Nothing like that being said on TSN.
