The sad part is this is the reality of the situation. I think we'll get back to the Fulmer from 2002-2007 level, but that's as far as it goes. I don't think we'll ever back to the 90s level of success again.

He still has a chance to be better than both.
If he can change. I highly doubt it.
What I expect is to win 8 games this year
Then average 8-11 every year with the occasional appearances in the SEC championship game. That will be good enough to keep him here. Greatness is not in his future Imo. I would not consider Jonny or Phil great either.

We just are not a program to be feared at this point. 100k+ screaming their hearts out can't change that. We haven't been a top team for a long time now and some fans are OK with that. The admin is definitely OK with that as evidenced by their hires.

We can rage and vent all we want but I wouldn't expect to return to dominance ( or even prominence ) with the cards we are playing.

Gutless football and playing it safe will never win at a high level.

38 years and this was one of the most demoralizing losses I've ever seen in Neyland. OP how bout you STFU, a little too soon at this point. I think this staff deserves the negativity it gets after that second half of football and I support Jones but that was just pathetic coaching.

Johnny = couldn't get us over the hurdle to NC level. His release paid off for us with a NC.
Fulmer = brought us a NC when he and his staff were hungry. Got complacent afterwards and started making bad assistant hires. Look at his record post 2001.
Kiffin = brash, confident. The anti-Fulmer. Put together a great staff. People were on-board for those reasons.
Dooley = a complete and utter failure. Recruited like he was still at Louisiana Tech. Lost to Vanderbilt and Kentucky. Couldn't retain the good assistants he had.

If Butch had Majors record his first 8 years at UT, he'd be run out on a rail.

The difference between Butch and Majors/Fulmer to this point is both of them had better staffs. Butch has to get better at that. Majors walked into a rebuilding situation like Butch, but Butch's job was much harder. Fulmer was given a program on a silver platter.

Support coaches
Put that on your resume


Other people have right to vent
Jones doesn't like it then he should coach to win

Both won Nat titles and you wouldn't consider them great coaches.

So if fans don't appreciate how once again poor game strategy cost UT a win... they're not as good of a fan as you?

I've counted this one a loss for awhile. When I ranked opponents here, I've said since last year that this was the 2nd toughest game next to Bama. So I'm definitely not "whining" about the loss.

What I HATE is what cost UT this game... just like UFX2, Vandy, et al. Jones' attempt to "manage" the game.

What competent coach would have thought that 17 points was going to be enough to win this game? If you know it isn't then shouldn't you take some shots to score more points when you have the ball in great field position OVER and OVER and OVER?

Instead, Jones went ultra conservative. He didn't take any shots down field to open up the run game. OU stuffed the LOS... and eventually got the ball enough to tire UT's D and figure out ways to move the ball.
