This is my first year at UTK and earlier in the year I went to listen to Bruce Pearl speak about the upcoming basketball season. I was amazed about his enthusiasm and the way he was trying to get the fans in the game. While I was attending the game last Saturday I was amazed at how the Georgia section seemed to be making more noise than the Vol fans in Neyland Stadium. Is there anything that can be done about getting the UTK's students into the game? We should have the most diehard fans in the nation, but anyone who was at or watching the game could tell that we don’t. I know there are some diehard fans like me left. We all know our team need to establish an identity, but can we establish a "fan identity". I'm not talking about turning Neyland Stadium in the Black Hole, but can we get some freaking excitement. The Orange Nation catches a lot of flak for not being energetic and maybe they should because I saw them leaving early too. What changes need to be made? Is there anyway to encourage "active student fans"? Do we need to rearrange the seating as Bruce Pearl is doing? If we fixed the audio in the stadium would it foster a more energetic environment? Maybe we can disband Orange Nation and have those seats open to all students first come first serve who would actively participate in the game. Maybe we need to have energetic students running up and down the isle getting the fans into the game. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the major problem? Does anyone have any examples from what other schools may have done?

I see your point, but it is the responsibility of the Offense to keep the fans in the game. TEN fans are like UK BB fans, they know their sport. They are aware of how poorly the Vols are underperforming. I contend that if the Vols were to score one TD every quarter the stadium would be the loudest in the country.

I am still hoarse from Saturday but I know what you mean. I thought the students and the bleacher creatures made plenty of noise but I was the only person in the 50s-60s of Section D who tried to make some kind of noise on all of our defensive plays. You'd think the people who are lucky enough to get those seats would be the rowdiest fans in the stadium.

The Orange Nation is the best thing to happen to Neyland in recent years. I'm glad they are there. If it weren't for them, the place would be much quieter.

We sit in "G" section, one row behind the students, that place was noisey where we were.. esp. when the students started their favorite cheer,,, "F***k you Georgia... am proud to say the guys in front of us started that... hahaha ....
Our students are the best and that side of the stadium is undoubtedly the loudest!!!!

GO VOLS...... GO BIG ORANGE........

I can assure you that it was not "fan noise" or "participation" that had anything to do with the disaster last saturday. We were out in force, it was loud, and the place was charged and ready to explode. There just wasn't any spark for the dynamite.

I'm a Junior at UT, and i'll tell you that they are not any louder then the rest of us. The Orange Nation consists of spoiled kids who leave early and don't even show up during basketball season. It's a joke and the SGA is talking about trying to change it.

I hate to admit it, but a lot of our fans are pretty weak... I was one of only a select few in close proximity (section KK row 7) yelling on the vast majority of our defensive plays.

For better or for worse, Tennesseans are just too reserved. We're generally not loud and rowdy by nature.

I don't put much blame on the offense. We cheer when a good play is made, but we're supposed to be LOUD whenever the VOLS are on defense. Until nearly halfway through the fourth quarter it was still a loss up so there's no excuse for us not being louder.

I was down in section J in the corner of the endzone and I couldn't hear myself think when we were on defense; especially on 3rd downs.

I think that some of it is where you are sitting. The closer you sit to the field, the louder it is.

Try getting OC RS to score more than 7 points a game and people may get excited. Randy SUCKS!

Freak! Im not calling this poster out, But isnt it rule to refrain from insulting/attacking players/ staff personally?
I have refrained myself, from attacking the poster personally, But, not only does he have No respect for the rules, He challenged you by calling our O- Line a bunch of ..............I'll not repeat.
I laugh, thinking he sat with me and my girl friend at the Ga game making those comments. The baby in the Toeaina family would sober his drunk butt up!

We do have some very classy students that attend the games. I'm glad we have those who show up and yell their heads off. However, for the earlier post about our stadium loudness. Our crowd contains to many socialites, their just there to be seen and party before and after the game. It's o.k. to party after the game, but only if we win. We have alot of fans who are not hardcore, a game is just something to do to burn time. That's not me, because I drive from Hendersonville every week, missing only 2 games at home in 25 seasons. Now for basketball, I'm pumped about Pearl, I hope he can rally the Knoxville area around the program.

Well, regardless of what has happened on previous Saturdays, it was loud last week. Our fans answered the call for the most part. The offense did not.
