Famous Tennessee Fans

What's the story behind the Pong nickname? and to stay on topic, I bet Bob Corker is a Vol fan.

Supposedly back in like 1920, the Pi Kapps had a ping pong table on their front porch and constantly played, hence, somehow the nickname of pong stuck.

it comes from back when howard baker became the SGA president and the article in the beacon said something about how when he got back to the house the brothers wouldnt stop there game of ping pong to celebrate or something along those lines. in the time i was there (just graduated in december) it started getting fazed out and pikapp (which is the national nickname) has replaced it.

the guys a long time ago used to play ping pong on the porch of the fraternity house, so the sorority girls gave us the name ping kappa pong, it eventually got shortened to Pong.

its the thing about howard baker.. we found the article while we were cleaning out the alumni room before the renovations and it ended with a line that said something to the effect of "maybe they should be ping kappa pong"

Anybody remember the old "That's Jake" cartoon strip? Actually it was a single panel but Jake Vest is a huge Tennessee fan and sporadically managed to work the Vols into the storyline. I'll try to post some if I can find 'em! He's been retired for a while now....

Lol, I'm in the music industry and have had sour deals with the said individual. Not to mention hearing many eyewitness acounts of his heroine use.

Trust me man I'm being 100% serious. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only 20 year old who doesn't like Lil' Wayne. People build him up to be some lyrical genius when he's nothing more than a talentless hype deal

Nick Lachey came to a game last year voicing "Go Vols." What other celebs have attended games?

Yeah, well i knew that. He's douchey anyway's! lol Just wondered what other hollywood stars, not players, have attended home games?

Anyone else remember Samual Jackson sporting the Tennessee gear at halftime (during an interview) of the monday night football game the monday after we beat the gators in 01.
