Hopefully he gets meaningful snaps this year. Better to know now if he can handle, as opposed to finding out game 1 next yearSimply not gonna happen. Heup doesn't start true freshmen. And true freshmen are not able to run his offense. G-Mac will be the guy next year, unless Josh goes for another portal veteran. And hopefully George understands the playbook more than Nico did.
We wouldn’t have even known about hooker if Milton didn’t get hurtHe inherited Hooker from Pruitt. Joey was the only option he had given the timing of Nico leaving. It was akin to the last gal in the bar at 2am. She's the only choice or you go home alone. To my mind, Heupel has yet to land a QB that fits his system and has excelled in it .
I guess he didn’t know hooker fit his system until Milton got hurt. Kinda just fell in his lapIf he hasn't landed a QB that fits his system then that says a lot. Hooker fit it well and Joey fits it decent. If we had to take a QB in the portal when we have Merk that's been here a couple of yrs and if he hasn't learned the system then that does speak volumes and not in a good way.
And then he developed him for the next season. Hooker got drafted because of Heupel. He's never going to see any meaningful time in the NFL because he doesn't have the skill set. It's not because he's not getting a chanceI guess he didn’t know hooker fit his system until Milton got hurt. Kinda just fell in his lap
Heupel and co had a first hand look at Hooker and still decided they needed to go get Milton. Won't lie....that along with Nico is making me question this staff's QB eval and development abilities. And that's the last position on the team I thought we'd struggle with.We wouldn’t have even known about hooker if Milton didn’t get hurt
How do you know true freshman can run his offense? We just had a player transfer in that got the playbook down in two months. Mac isn’t the answer or we wouldn’t have 6.Simply not gonna happen. Heup doesn't start true freshmen. And true freshmen are not able to run his offense. G-Mac will be the guy next year, unless Josh goes for another portal veteran. And hopefully George understands the playbook more than Nico did.
Having qbs is a JH core strength. Not worried about this. Defense on the other hand…Heupel has to go to the portal if Merk transfers. We can't go into a season with just G-Mac and Faizon.
The question is does Heupel go for a steady backup guy and G-Mac as the starter or does Heupel look for someone with starter potential?
To me, you have to go after the best QB you can possibly get BUT does that lead to G-Mac waving bye bye?
If you just get a steady hand backup QB and G-Mac really isn't the guy, next season looks rough unless Faizon is that rare kid who is a true FR starter in the SEC.
Nico was a talented head case. Brandon will probably be one of three things: The next superstar, the next guy who was not as good as he seemed but serviceable, or he might be the next head case. But for certain, we will put our trust in him, and when he makes his first mistake, the doubts will be loud.Brandon may or may not be any good. We just saw it with Nico.
If we finish 7-5, I think he has to go get a transfer to start next year. Not sure he will have the capital to ride out a year with a true freshman taking his lumps against a much tougher schedule if this year turns into a collapse.
Yeah maybe they should temper expectations. Some will. And some will not.Fans should temper their expectations next year. Freshman QBs take time to develop. Rarely do they come in and just take over college football. I tried to tell Michigan fans that coming into this season and none of them were having it. But just look at Bryce Underwood stats now 7 Passing TDs and 3 INTs.
With that said, I've been extremely impressed with how George Macintyre has looked in every opportunity he has been given. What impresses me the most is how he manuevers in the pocket and evades pressure. He looks really calm and unfazed. Considering Faizon will be a true freshman, I think you have to start G-Mac, bring in a one year rental in an experienced QB, and redshirt Faizon.
He’s young for his class. That’s one thing Tennessee liked about him over Curtis who is 19 (hell I’d love to played HS as a 19 yr old). I wouldn’t be surprised to see him redshirt a year. I’d be shocked if he were the starter.I hope Brandon comes in ready to start. I'm tired of the string of one year QBs. A three year starter would actually bring some leadership to the team.
