Wow, good numbers. You gotta think that even if Phil wins a few more here and there that this is his last go around. I do think the man has earned the right to leave with respect. He has bled orange for almost all of his life.

I just wish he would retire and save us the trouble and drama of having too fire him.I do respect all he has done in the past but its time for a new thinking.

That's certainly not the kind of record we'd like to have here at Tennessee, but I think we need to go back and review the tape from all those games before we jump to any conclusions.

Fulmer will retire at the end of this season. Write it down. He knows it's time. He sees the empty seats. He reads the message boards. He knows.

Wouldn't retiring negate us having to buy him out. You really think he's going to just walk away from that $6million...

Damning statistics. Who can refute these?

I think a lot of that can be attributed to the strength of the league in recent history. Teams like LSU, Ark, Miss, Miss St, Kentucky, SC, and Vandy used to be considered sure fire wins.

Boy this place is gonna be wild when the Vols win out and Fulmer gets his raise and extension.

I'm not going to refute the stats -- it's bad and I think now that he should probably retire, but it'd be a little more credible if you'd stuck with 1999 for all of the stats instead of jumping between years to make them look better.

That is my understanding - although I'm no expert. My guess is that a deal will be negotiated. Fulmer will get part of the buyout as a "golden parachute" for retiring. Or, he might get the full $6 million but spread over a longer period of time. It's worth the money to save the school and the AD the embarassment and frustration of an ugly firing.
