Extending Cuonzo Martin - How Long?

There are only 5 jobs I see CCM ever leaving UT for...Purdue, Indiana, Mizzou, SLU, and Illinois...This guy loves Knoxville and UT despite how many people don't like him as our coach...CCM is here as long as he wants and Hart is happy with him

Purely guessing on your part. Was'nt 'you know who' from somewhere else? I agree with the fact he is here as long as he wants. He holds all the aces at this point. I'd love to be a fly on the wall with his meeting with Hart. I'd come out richer for sure. And my contract would go to 2018 if not 2020.

They don't want him to leave, they are going to have to give him a good extension and raise.

Make Cuonzo at least the 3 rd highest paid coach in the SEC. Give him a 5 year extension as well.

I'm thinking he will get three years and at least 500 grand more a season. He is at 1.3 has to move way up the SEC ladder after this tourney run.

Do you believe the AD will extend him this week or keep dangling the carrot? I can see both sides of the argument.

He's not dangling a carrot. You don't sit down with a coach to hash out a contract until his season is over. Zo has a lot of scouting to do this week, plenty of time for contracts after that.

Plus if you're Zo, the further you go the more ammo you have. It would be awfully stupid to sign a contract tomorrow and then go make a final four, could've gotten a much better deal.

And this is pathetic! Other than Cal and Billy where are the rest of these fools? Sitting on their couch or fired. Shame on the UT admin!!!

For the part in bold: Did you see the ends of the last 2 seasons? Losses at home in the NIT.

For the underlined part: I felt the same as you, and even secretly hoped we wouldn't make the tourney, not only because I kind of thought we didn't deserve it objectively, but also because I thought a loss might lead to change. But, I think/hope we may be seeing a coach in evolution himself, and his system along with that. Pearl probably tweaked and modified his system in DII for years before he felt he had a good general formula for high success, consistently. Look at Amaker: mediocrity at Michigan, years developing the Harvard program and his system has led to two straight tourneys with wins in each. Is it possible that at Mizz St., Martin inherited talent, and their success then masked the fact that his system that he wanted to run was still being molded, and the same has been true here. We may have been seeing a team playing in a system that was constantly evolving to become better, and that has been what's led to the inconsistency we've been frustrated by and scratching out heads about.

At least, I hope. But, I'm certainly easing up on his, because the team seems to be responding to something right now, and the result has been cohesiveness, discipline, and resilience for more games in a row than we've seen before. And a Sweet 16 run will do nothing but help recruiting, which Martin has done pretty well, with Stokes and Hubbs, getting IIRC more 5* players than Pearl, and hopefully, we can get more of the 4* guys in the fold with these improving results.

So, all in all...Go Vols!

At any point, if you were hoping we would lose then you are not a Vol fan and probably where one of the one's that signed that silly petition. I hate that nerds and hipsters have became so interested in sports the last 15 or so years due to video games. That and old dead heads that played horse in peach baskets when they were kids.

I say CCM deserves at least a 2-year extension with a raise. No way he doesn't deserve a bump in pay and an opportunity to recruit with confidence.
