Extending Cuonzo Martin - How Long?

So? He also openly lobbied himself for multiple other jobs.

We all know Martin isn't nearly as vocal as Pearl. Does he need to parade around campus with his chest painted orange for you to believe he wants to be here?

No...I'd like for him to say something like "TN is a place where I see myself for a very, very long time." Or "TN is a final destination" or "TN is among the best programs like Ky, Duke, Kansas, etc... Why would anyone want to leave?"

Pearl actually SAID IT. And stated he wanted to build a LEGACY at Tennessee during his press conference at Auburn.

Lmao, this quote was in the article you just linked...

"We're building something special here,'' said Martin, who was Missouri State's coach for three seasons. "I enjoy my job at Tennessee, and I'm looking forward to bigger things...

Kinda like this...

You really aren't familiar with how coaching changes work are you? The coach doesn't pay that lol

I have followed Cuonzo Martin since he was a freshman at Purdue (granted I was pretty young at the time) but if U.T. shows him the love, he will have no reason to leave. He is loyal, and U.T. gave him a big opportunity (Purdue had a choice when Keady retired and went with Painter because he had more head coaching experience) and Martin is a loyal guy. Family first, unless U.T. tries to low ball him of push him out the door without actually pushing him out the door. If U.T. pays him what he is worth and provides adequate job security he will stay.

I agree 100%

"looking forward to bigger things".... He's talking about going elsewhere.

Why can't he say "LOVE being at TN."

"enjoy" seems like a word you say if you want something more.

I enjoy coaching. or I love coaching. 2 different meanings IMO.

Holy crap dude, you're right, this is all a secret plan by Martin to be the next coach of Marquette. He placed Tyler Summitt there intentionally so that he could follow him there in a few years.

You win.

Exactly. TN should...but I don't think HART is that type. He's much tougher IMO.

I still think Cuonzo would leave TN for whatever school he would rather have though.

I think Cuonzo will negotiate in good faith and give U.T. a home team discount. If it's close between U.T. and another team Martin will stay at U.T. until U.T. doesn't want him.

Tn should?

Didn't you just say above they shouldn't extend him because Martin wants to go elsewhere?

Which is it?

2 mill+, extend back to the 5 years he originally got. His buyout if he leaves equal remaining amount due him by contract. JMO

They obviously KNOW that Martin is not wanting to stay here.

Unless there is some LAW that states they can only give a coach an extension after the season is over.

If I was in control, and I knew that CCM wanted to be at TN for his entire life, and was doing a great job RIGHT NOW,( at least a shot for sweet 16,) I'd extend it RIGHT NOW).

Why is Hart waiting then?

If Hart doesn't give CCM an extension and he stays here, than we know 2 things :

1. CCM wasn't offered another job
2. CCM wants to be at TN forever

BTO - you seem to be close with CCM. What is it? Do you see him being at TN forever?

TN should give ANY coach an extension with CCM results...but I can see why they wouldn't if they know a coach is not going to be here long term.

This is the last thing I will say about CCM:

"I want consistency and better results from the previous coach."

If you are willing to fire someone, than you are willing to accept the challenge that the next hire will match the previous and raise the bar.

TN didn't have to fire BP. They took on that challenge and so did CCM.

Martin is getting an extension, when this becomes public will you STFU about him not wanting to be here?

And if you don't think Tennessee had to fire Pearl then there's really no point in discussing anything with you.

There are only 5 jobs I see CCM ever leaving UT for...Purdue, Indiana, Mizzou, SLU, and Illinois...This guy loves Knoxville and UT despite how many people don't like him as our coach...CCM is here as long as he wants and Hart is happy with him

It's all the propaganda they have left. The BBB didn't work so well, the team fizzles didn't work so well.....now it's he'll bolt. It'll always be something with them.
