Expectations

Takes more than a couple of years to un-do a decade+ of bad admin, bad decisions, bad coaches. Good news is foundationally, we're in a good spot now.
Agreed. We need about 3 top 5 recruiting classes in a row looks like we may get a top 5 class this year hopefully

? You serious?
ADs have to be the smartest guy in the room.
They know they can always find a better coach than what was inherited.
Different factions within the big money boosters are the deciding factor, but ADs do want coaches that they select. All schools, all sports.

Do we still expect and demand to win SEC titles around here anymore or are we just happy with 8 and 9 win seasons?

I think the majority of us “want” to win titles...and not just the SEC variety.

But at this point in time, the best we can do is to “hope” to win one. “Expect” would be a strong word.

However, I think most of us do “expect” a coach who will build the program back up to where we get back to expecting a team that competes for titles most years. Despite Pruitt’s inauspicious beginning to last season, he appears to be doing that. We are just going to have to give him the necessary time.

To the original question, I expect the program to consistently be at a level where we:
  • Win the SEC East (and ideally the conference title game too) at least once every 3-4 years
  • Average at least .700 in conference wins over any given 3-5 year span of time. That's 5.6 wins per season, or a game and a half-ish over .500
  • Never get below .500 in conference in any one season.
Don't deliver that, find someone who can. More than that is just gravy. And really a minimum .700 average in conference, over time, puts you in rarified air. Factor in the non-conference slate and how we should fare there, and your win pct. puts the coach on the all-time greats list. Vince Dooley: .715, Spurrier: .718, Jim Tressel: .742, JoePa: .749

We are a long long way from having a SEC championship program.
Ga. is talent loaded.
Fl has our number.
The west is strong, Bama, LSU, TAM, Auburn are contenders.
Puts us about mid pack in the SEC, on good years.
Can we build to being a champion? That is the question.
I wouldn't say TAM and Auburn are contenders. And I agree we need two more years now because of the Chinese virus.

Good recruiting classes will not cut it in the SEC.
They have to be GREAT for 4-5 years running.
No they don't but we do need 4 years of top 10 recruiting classes. We currently only have one under CJP. Let's give him two more years and see where the cards falls.

So you think they would fire a coach who’s showing promise just because they think they could hire someone better?

BJ teams in 61 games won 34 lost 27 in 4 seasons
and 10 games in 5th season

If we play 13 games next 3 years
that will be 64 games by end of JP 5th year
Pruitt Our record first 2 years is won 13 lost 12
over next 3 season if we win 7, 8 & 9 total wins 37 wins with 27 loses a little better than BJ .
think this should be the very bottom.
Anything below that Pruitt should be gone. That's 7.4 wins a year
the anomaly would be if he wins a SECeast on 9 win season & competes in SECC or pulls out a win
buying him more time

We will contend for the East Title in one or two years. If we win the East anything is possible in a one game SEC championship. The gap between UT and (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, LSU and Auburn) has closed or is closing fast.
