I was just wondering what everybody's expectations were for him? I know there is a chance he could miss part of the season bc of suspension, but for the sake of things let's just say he plays the entire season. There has been many freshmen WR make a big impact in the SEC the last few years. Will he be the next?

Let's hope he's the next big freshman WR to contribute in the SEC.

AJ Green, Julio Jones, Alshon Jeffery, Da'Rick Rogers?

Let's hope.

If he was involved I want him off the team. Janzen Jackson did the right thing. And I know someone is going to say thats my point JJ made a bad choice and his 2nd chance seems to have paid off. The difference is JJ never hurt anyone. If anyone kicked a guy while unconcious regardles if they started it or not then Hasta la Vista Baby!! That being said if he didnt kick the man and was TRULY trying to break it up I hope he is suspended till Georgia then bring him out. I expect him to have average numbers because no fault of his own even if he can play. Those other players you mentioned had good offensive line and qb play. Da'Rick will not have long to get open before Simms or bray is looking at the sky.

That Percy Harvin wasn't too bad as a freshman either. But yes I would love for him to be the next in that line. I completely believe he has the talent to do it. The question is will the line block long enough for pass plays, and if they do how will the quarterbacks throw? IMO Da'Rick Rogers has a great great year. I don't believe Denarius Moore and Gerald Jones can both stay healthy all year which would give Rogers the opportunity to come in and show what he can do.

Huh? You would want him suspended even if he were trying to break things up?

i dont care if those 2 started the fight. if somebody is unconcious its time to call off the dogs. i never was a fan of outnumbering a person. if 2 people are wanting to fight then you should only bring 2.

Conspicuously absent from Tennessee’s news release on disciplinary action taken against players involved in Thursday’s night bar brawl in Knoxville was any mention of Da’Rick Rogers.

Rogers, a freshman wide receiver from Calhoun, was one of two Vols arrested after that 1:50 a.m. incident at Bar Knoxville on the Cumberland Avenue entertainment strip near the UT campus. The other, sophomore safety Darren Myles, was dismissed the team.

Myles, a Carver graduate from Atlanta, was charged by Knoxville police with assault, evading arrest and resisting arrest. It was his second arrest in three months, hence his dismissal. Two other players were suspended indefinitely.

Rogers was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. But there was no mention of the five-star wide receiver in the statement released by coach Derek Dooley Friday afternoon.

I asked UT sports communications chief Bud Ford for an explanation.

“Coach Dooley has left it open-ended pending the completion of the investigation,” Ford said Saturday. “I can confirm is that [Rogers] was one of [the UT] people that was at that location. There were nine or 10. I don’t know, it could be an internal situation.”

Ford said he did not know any specifics about the accusations against Rogers or any of the other players except what had been disclosed publically by police. He said Dooley is conducting his own independent investigation.

“I believe Coach Dooley knows what happened,” Ford said. “He’s looking at it from the standpoint of whether they handled the situation how he expects them to handle it. He said his investigation will be based on his standards.”

From initial police reports, Rogers’ role in unclear. Also uncertain are the roles of sophomore defensive tackle Marlon Walls and sophomore linebacker Greg King — both of whom were indefinitely suspended by Dooley.

Myles is alleged to have struck an off-duty police officer when a fight that started inside the bar moved outside. Myles then ran away and, at one point, was hiding underneath a parked car, police said.

Robert Capouellez, an off-duty Knoxville officer who tried to break up the fight, was hit in the head, knocked to the ground by several assailants and then kicked several times before falling unconscious. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

“Although we are still gathering all the facts and some legal proceedings will follow, we have taken some initial levels of discipline resulting from my conversations with the student-athletes who were present,” Dooley said. “I am respectful of the process that follows with the local authorities and with our institutional guidelines and leadership.”

Myles, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound rising sophomore, was rated the No. 9 safety in America coming out of Atlanta’s Carver High. He played in seven games for the Vols last season, recording seven tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup.

Rogers (6-3, 215) was the top-rated prospect in Georgia last year. He set a state record for receiving yards in a season with 1,642. He was committed to UGA for eight months before switching to Tennessee days before National Signing Day in order to follow quarterback Nash Nance, his teammate and best friend, to Knoxville.

Dooley has vowed to toughen up on team discipline. The Vols have had an embarrassing stream of serious arrest in the last two years, including two players being dismissed last year after being arrested for armed robbery.

“As I have referenced on many occasions, a change in culture is achieved in time through a combination of education, discipline and support,” Dooley said. “We will aggressively continue to build on the many positive changes that have occurred over the last five months to ensure our program is represented with class and dignity.”

A former Vol is using Twitter to chime in on the latest arrests in Knoxville involving Tennessee football players. Jayson Swain was a standout wide receiver for the Vols from 2003-2006. The Huntsville native said he's "not surprised about the brawl and police getting whooped." He went on to say it was "only a matter of time."
WRCB archives could not find any police incidents involving Swain during his UT career.
Swain became critical of some officers in the Knoxville Police Department but was complimentary of the Department as a whole.
"KPD is a good police force but has young punks who want to make name for self. It's unfortunate they sometimes players get sucked in," he said.
Swain added, "Although I've never gotten in trouble, I've seen police officers deliberately pick on football players."
The former Vol does not believe the problem of high-profile athletes getting into trouble with police is unique to Knoxville.
"Some college towns have cases with hometown police while others get along. We so happen have a issue with KPD," he stated on his Twitter account.
The problems are not the responsibility of the coaches, according to Swain. Phillip Fulmer, Lane Kiffin, and now Derek Dooley are having similar incidents happen on their watch.
"I'm not making excuses for the players but there's a problem on BOTH sides. With police and players...Let's think about this... 3 different UT coaches. Same issues. Every school is the same. Same clubs... Ask yourself what is the variable??":good!:

What expectations do you want to give him, is the real question here. Sometimes, fans put too high of expectations on players and coaches for them to live up to. He's a freshman, he will play, how well he does is up to how in shape he is for SEC play and how well our O-Line blocks for the QB.
