I’m skeptical of some of the efforts in Washington to try and improve the situation. Would be surprised if the EO sticks. And the bill in Congress to give an organization such as the NCAA anti-trust protections seems like a bad idea!

An executive order in an election year provokes responses from everyone up for re-election in a college sports passionate state or district. In this case, that means taking a stand on one solution or another.

Once representatives have taken a position, their electorate can start pressuring them to take action before another collegiate athletic season begins. The need to at least look like they're taking action becomes more necessary.

I'm not optimistic there'll be a solution soon.

Anyway, the entire economy is going to change, for better or worse, over the next 4 years. I'm thinking the best thing that could happen is for the nation to reassess the personal and societal values of participating in sports and team-building, rather than the monetary value of watching sports.

The U.S. Congress is an utterly useless body. Over the last 100+ years it has slowly but surely abdicated its responsibilies in holding the 'power of the purse' and in oversight, where we see 'investigations' that result in nothing more than grandstanding and X posts. We have become a country run by executive orders by whatever clown happens to reside in the White House.

Anything they passed with regard to college sports would be self serving and probably the death knell to the sports as we have come to know and love them. But the likelihood of them actually passing a bill is highly unlikely, as the actual solving of problems is never a priority, but just having the issues to campaign with and get reelected are all that really matters to them.

NIL is totally fine. I don't mind players getting paid. The portal is what's frustrating. It's amazing if players play for a school for a school two straight years anymore.

Great. So let's give the athletes employee status, Union contracts...

...and the right to strike, and a133 team draft instead of recruiting, and eliminate the military academies from college sports. You know, just kike the NFL has.

Not so. They are trying to save the way it used to be. That way is fine and it is not coming back.

The solution is to collectively bargain with the players, ala professional sports leagues. Everything thing else will fail because it can be overturned in court.

In my opinion the old way is better than the new way and anything getting it closer to the old way is a win for NCAA sports
