excuse or not but its pretty amazing that

Nick, Curt's backup at DE is Corey Vereen, a junior. His backup at the LEO spot pass rushing is Chris Weatherd, a senior. His backup at OLB was, until very recently, Kenny Bynum, a red shirt junior.

So now freshman Austin Smith has beaten out Bynum for the OLB start, that's great for the team; talent wins out. It really doesn't change the fact that we have plenty of experienced talent in the box.

We're not as young as Butch likes to portray the team.

Bynum looked bad vs WCU.

Very very slow

... like the "29 players who are flying down for their first SEC game", just like the "we're actually a younger team this year than last year", just like the "64% of our players have been in the program for 1 year or less", just like last year's "74% of our players have never been in an airplane before" in reference to the Oklahoma game, just like......

Dang. With those stats, it's hard to believe we could win anything. Shows our staff is bringing us back. Much appreciated info.

Our OL has 3 upperclassmen; RS Sr, RS So and true JR. Stop with this line is young BS. If they don't know the scheme/technique and don't have any strength at this point that's on coaching or the players are pathologically dumb to not be able to pick it up.

Maybe you missed where he mentioned "lack of talent".

None of them were highly rated. All our upperclassmen, with the exception of Blair, were 3 stars. We need some of the younger guys in the mix by the end of the season or the OL will suck again next year.

Having said that, they do seem to be working hard and this year is much better than last. It's just that last year was so bad....:cray:

So sometimes rankings matter and sometimes they don't. Got it. When it's Cameron Sutton the services got it wrong, when it's Kerbyson they got it right. FYI Kerbyson had offers from Bama, UF, Ark and the real USC. Crowder had VT and SCar offers. Posey had LSU, Clemson, SCar offers. Jackson had UF, FSU, Miami and SCar offers. Wiseman had an Ohio St offer from Urban. Kendrick had an Arkansas offer. Blair had offers from coast to coast. It's unfortunate that guys have gotten hurt and/or transferred out.

If Posey was still here, Jackson wasn't hurt and Sanders wasn't hurt would we still be talking about young and weak talent?

He didn't miss it. His 100K degree from UT allows him to skip parts he doesn't agree with. He's special.

And your peon GA brain only allows you to regurgitate Butch's talking points.

I mention my degree and its cost to accentuate my "fandom" for your questioning mind. I applied to one school, undertook student loans to pay for OOS tuition and live in student loan debt 8 yrs after graduating all to attend the only school I ever cared about. So my fandom is unwavering. I've said it before, I'm not a fan of coaches, I'm a fan of UT and don't get emotionally attached to any of them.

With all due respect, it's very much an excuse to tamp down expectations IMHO. Just like the "29 players who are flying down for their first SEC game", just like the "we're actually a younger team this year than last year", just like the "64% of our players have been in the program for 1 year or less", just like last year's "74% of our players have never been in an airplane before" in reference to the Oklahoma game, just like......

well.. was any of this a lie?..

I am mad as f@^K at the coaches for their game plan when we lead by a lot.

but im not going on crying and preaching any message.

sthu and let us play a few more games,..

Not getting into the youth conversation but Posey should have never been recruited. He is 3rd team at Mercer.

Maybe he doesn't care? Who knows. I find it hard to believe that LSU, Clemson, USC and UT didn't see something in him. Clemson was more than ready to accept his commitment when we got him.

So, I should lower my expectations from 8-4 to 7-5 or 6-6 because of all these painstaking statistics that he cites despite the fact that we returned as many starters as any other team in the SEC and have very good upperclassmen players/leaders all over the field?

When one looks at our first five opponents that matter this year (Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Alabama) we see that only Georgia and Bama have more seasoned rosters than ours, and not by much. Should I, rather than expect Tennessee to only go 2-4 versus the best 6 teams we play this year, just be good with 1-5 or 0-6 versus those teams? Does that really seem irrational to you?

So I guess having 54 players on a team with one year or less NCAA experience is seasoned now Wow...

The proof is in his career so obviously they did all miss or they were not all commitable offers.

why do u say this..just wondering what ur view points are

Just didn't have D1 talent. Was here 3 years including a rs and didn"t play any meaningful snaps. Transferred to Mercer and didn't play there either.

the travel roster will only include 12 players who were at the Swamp 2 yrs ago.....

I don't think Butch is using this as an excuse as much as he's trying to send a message just how much he has changed this program.

Frankly, the only team on the field Saturday that can beat the Vols are the Vols. Time to step up and make it happen.

I fully expect your post to be met with some remarks on how this staff can't coach, OU had a walk-on QB (technically he balled out at TT) and some questionable stat about how some AL or OSU team won the NC with 4 lepers and a one legged kicker that transferred from the AL state women's soccer team. I love this site, it's like watching a Donnie baker video on YouTube. Thanks for talking my call Pauwww!

So you're saying he shouldn't have been offered 4 yrs later. Hindsights a great thing. Who knows what may be said about Butch's guys 2-3 yrs from now.

I never thought he would play and had he stayed he wouldn't. Hindsight or not it doesn't change the fact that he couldn't play at this level. If he had all these offers that Rivals lists that are not even accurate and he was good why would he transfer to Mercer? Just trying to get noticed by the league?
