Fulmer had some young sqauds and still did well.
Butch knows that he has to win this game and is only throwing a layer of ice cubes on his seat in the event he craps the bed again.
I like Butch, I believe that given time he would produce constant winners, but as a UT fan I am tired of "time" being the case, and especially living in the state were Bamers literally poo themselves over one loss it makes "time" seem to last longer.
Butch needs to win, It's just that simple.

This is kind of where I am. Tired of hearing about our youth. I don't give a damn how old our college football players are. You recruited most of them. Get them ready to win. If they are not ready, then start upperclassmen...they are on football scholarships too, right?

Win with the roster you have created...improving it every year, as you have so masterfully done.

But win with the team you have. We can beat every team on our schedule...I truly believe we have the talent to do that. I'll spot you 2-3 losses to our youth this year. More than that, something is wrong.

Don't disagree. But how much did OUs younger and less experienced OL hamper them when we played. Apparently not too much.

Mayfield got pressured... his offensive line looked life a semi permeable membrane... we just missed a zillion tackles on him and his uniform was to clean after the game. Dude was like Houdini.

There are four years of eligibility. How long do we expect people to play? You may not even need these excuses. Save them for after a game we lose. The preemptive excuses are sad. There is still a game to play.

UGA has played 21 true freshmen this season, the most in CFB. Richt has made no comments on how young the team is.

How many have played significant minutes not just special teams? Any stat can be twisted to fit an agenda. We're young it's a fact. Trying to compare who has the youngest most inexperienced team is folly.

the travel roster will only include 12 players who were at the Swamp 2 yrs ago.....

I don't think Butch is using this as an excuse as much as he's trying to send a message just how much he has changed this program.

Frankly, the only team on the field Saturday that can beat the Vols are the Vols. Time to step up and make it happen.

If it's not being used as an excuse, why is it brought up every week?:hi:

With all due respect, it's very much an excuse to tamp down expectations IMHO. Just like the "29 players who are flying down for their first SEC game", just like the "we're actually a younger team this year than last year", just like the "64% of our players have been in the program for 1 year or less", just like last year's "74% of our players have never been in an airplane before" in reference to the Oklahoma game, just like......

These are facts..not excuses. He has plainly said that we expect to win every game we play, that is the expectation at a school like UT. I have never one single time heard him say..we lost because I only have freshman, I would have beaten that team if only I had all upper class man like they did...that would be an excuse. Coming AFTER the fact, and trying to make people sympathetic..that is what an excuse is.

Stating these facts about how young and inexperienced we are SHOULD give our fans hope. Look at how close we are to being great with a roster full of new players. When they get some more experience, we will be unstoppable.

CBJ will win a NC within the next 3 to 4 years. IF our childish, impatiant, instant gratification redneck fans will give him the time. Instead of talking about getting rid of him over a double OT loss to a team ranked higher then us.

I know our fans are tired of losing, and want to win now. But it does not work like that. You have to build the ship before you can sail it.

Oh the beautiful irony of a poster going from thread to thread, day after day, to gripe and moan more himself about the posters he "thinks" are doing nothing but griping and moaning. Lol. Give it a rest man.

We all have our opinions....some of have more balance in those opinions than others. Some of us can and have, on many occasions, praised Butch and his staff for the great things they've done in their short time in Knoxville, while at the same time being able to question and even criticize some other things that they've not done very well yet.

We're all fans here, even though you and others have and continue to do your very best to condescendingly insist otherwise. Relax brother.

The problem with the criticism is the fact that 99.9% of the people that do it around here are not qualified to coach a peewee team, let alone a D1 top tier college program like UT.

No one likes an armchair quaterback.

It would be one thing to say it once or twice in a thread dedicated to it.

It is entirely a different animal to moan and complain hijacking every single thread on the board with that sniveling drivel.

That's the thing I see in a lot of posts that trouble me. Have we all not been patient since 2008? If one has been patient for 7 years, how does that equal an expectation of instant gratification? I think we've all had hope for a long time. On the morbid flip side that no one thinks about, how many great and older fans have died in that period trying to hang onto hope and wanting to see turnaround that never came? How many more? IMO, Jones will not win an NC here or anywhere.:hi: He dearly needs this win Saturday and I think we'll get it.

Was reading patiently until that third paragraph. Classy. It's amazing how "I wish he'd stop playing the we're too young card" gets interpreted as "we need to get rid of him"....not only have I never said that, I've pretty consistently balanced my very specific criticism with praise for him in almost every other area in about half a dozen threads. But that of course doesn't play...."impatient, childish and redneck"...got it.

Where is our youth, inexperience, and lack of talent? The offensive line. That group, alone, has and will hamper this team's opportunities.

Our OL has 3 upperclassmen; RS Sr, RS So and true JR. Stop with this line is young BS. If they don't know the scheme/technique and don't have any strength at this point that's on coaching or the players are pathologically dumb to not be able to pick it up.

None of them were highly rated. All our upperclassmen, with the exception of Blair, were 3 stars. We need some of the younger guys in the mix by the end of the season or the OL will suck again next year.

Having said that, they do seem to be working hard and this year is much better than last. It's just that last year was so bad....:cray:

What if..... They're just not capable of being quality starters? All coaches miss on prospects. We all knew that both lines were depleted when Jones arrived. Look at the number of Olinemen that played out of position last year. It's not because they've got an adequate amount of quality talent at that position.

This is CBJ third year...you can't hold him responsible for the last 7. He is the first coach we have had since then that actually has us moving in the right direction..every year he has been here, our program has gotten better. Case in point..last year we were blown out by OK. This year they had to mount an amazing 4th quarter combat and take us to double OT to get the win.

(Not mention the fact that they needed some help from some pretty shadey calls by the refs)

You want to blame someone for the last 7 years..blame hamilton, and the scores of idiots who supported the idea of getting rid of Fulmer.

I told everyone at the time that this was going to happen. But for some dumb reason, people thought we were going to hire some world beater coach who would just walk in and put us on top immediately.

With Hamilton doing the hiring, there was the same chance of that happening as a rain shower of gold coins falling over Knoxville.

And you got these facts where??? That's what I thought. No UT still has a much younger team.:eek:k:

Facts aren't important here - only feelings [blue font] unless it involves the token Dooley record comparisoms, the favorite "fact for trolls who ignore the impact of recruiting.

I'm not looking to blame anyone. Just sayin', it's past time for the money invested/wasted by UT the past 7 years. But, if blame were to be placed, it should go to Hamilton. And, Cheek, Haslam, Thunder and the other deep pocket idiots. Getting rid of Fulmer at that point was ridiculous.

And that goes to show that some of the fan base is psycho. For some reason a portion of our fan base refuse to accept the fact that Dooley left us in a world of $hit when he was fired. That portion of the fan base has this entitlement mentality..."We are Tennessee, we are suppose to win...we should never lose!" That is a sad mentality to have because CBJ has had to do a complete overhaul of the roster.
You've got people on here *****ing and moaning about attrition, but in this case, attrition is a good thing. I know everyone is tired of hearing about be patient, but you have to be patient. Look at the improvement in team speed and fight and play. The wins will come. Blowing this $hit up and starting over is not the answer.

A lot of the attrition has been Butch recruits. Not sure how that is a good thing.

As has been pointed out, we will stay perpetually "young" if we keep losing 1/3 of our classes then signing giant classes to make up for the losses.

There is a difference in playing freshman at end of game when you already have it won and needing freshman to compete against upperclassmen for an entire game. HUGE DIFFERENCE

This may have been covered, I haven't read all 7 pages. Phil Steele
does a "youth" eval....experience 2 deep anaylsis...name escapes me.

Anyway, he doesn't analyze the age of the team per se, but the amount of experience the contributors have.

UF was significantly worse than we were. So was LSU

It's Dooley's fault that Posey transferred on Butch's watch, Tiny turned pro early and Jackson got hurt? If we had Posey and Jackson this year would we still be griping about being "young" on the OL?

Tell me your kidding? The '13 OL had 5 guys playing on Sunday's now, one of which turned pro early.
