Every year theres going to be 40-50 guys who haven't played in a certian sec stadium. And every year there going to be 15-25 guys who have never played a SEC road game. These excuses are nothing more than excuses.the travel roster will only include 12 players who were at the Swamp 2 yrs ago.....
I don't think Butch is using this as an excuse as much as he's trying to send a message just how much he has changed this program.
Frankly, the only team on the field Saturday that can beat the Vols are the Vols. Time to step up and make it happen.
The youth excuse is really getting old, especially considering that OU has a younger team than UT, and UF has a MUCH younger team than UT.
By the third year of a coach's tenure, he should know better than play the youth card. And, definitely by the fourth.
Butch must not believe in himself. If he did, he wouldn't be out there trying to buy himself more time. He would instead focus on winning ball games.
It's not entirely inaccurate though. Maggit goes down and there's no junior or senior with game experience to back him up. We have young players at important positions, talent means a lot but there's no substitute for experience.

With all due respect, it's very much an excuse to tamp down expectations IMHO. Just like the "29 players who are flying down for their first SEC game", just like the "we're actually a younger team this year than last year", just like the "64% of our players have been in the program for 1 year or less", just like last year's "74% of our players have never been in an airplane before" in reference to the Oklahoma game, just like......
Nick, Curt's backup at DE is Corey Vereen, a junior. His backup at the LEO spot pass rushing is Chris Weatherd, a senior. His backup at OLB was, until very recently, Kenny Bynum, a red shirt junior.
So now freshman Austin Smith has beaten out Bynum for the OLB start, that's great for the team; talent wins out. It really doesn't change the fact that we have plenty of experienced talent in the box.
We're not as young as Butch likes to portray the team.

Keep denying the obvious in order to bash Jones and Co.....you and the rest of the known crybabies have to have something to complain about.
What? OU is younger than UT?? Where did that stat come from??
Bottomline: No one cares about how young or old the team is. They want a win @ UF this weekend. Period.
Butch and Co. have to make this happen. If not, people will be upset.
I think Butch is referring to the fact that most of our talented players are young and not the whole team. We keep upgrading in talent, but that means young guns. We have older kids on the roster, but they are not as good as the new young talent. Proof is Alabama and GA numbers saying they are younger--- they may be from top to bottom, but most of their young players are on the bench while the upperclassmen are starting. AL offense and Defensive lines are almost all upperclassmen and LB's as well. Henry is a Junior....
Johnny Majors said we were young every year he was coaching the Vols.
Bravo! Some coaches take their young team, coach 'em up and win games. Other coaches use youth as a crutch when they are being out coached and out played. Georgia played 23 freshmen when they blasted South Carolina and I didn't hear a peep about it. Everyone is playing freshmen and first year starters, it's part of the game. Tired of hearing about it after 3 years and to me it's WEAK and it shows it to your players and fan base. No one gives a sh*t if only 12 players been on an jet plane or 29 players never been to the Swamp...we want you to win and if you find that Tennessee is just too big of a place for you, then GTFO and head back to the MAC
