Maurer is still a freshman and will do freshman mistakes. His INT was maybe his worst pass of the day, but it didn’t lose the game for us. If he took a sack, he was BLINDSIDED or he got tripped up. But he will get better scrambling out of those situations.
I think we will be fine going forward.
Now the defense?? 😩

he threw the ball well for an entire half which is way better than what we had, but he's not a dual threat either!
I’ve been trying to explain that for god knows how long. He’s a pocket passer that can run. Not a duel threat that can pass. There’s a huge difference. He’s just fast if you give him a lane but he’s more effective from inside or outside the pocket.

Maurer really impressed me in the first half but made some freshman mistakes,he will learn from that. What killed him was Georgia used halftime to make adjustments to shut down what was successful for Tennessee in first half.

70 yards rushing. Got to be able to actually control the LOS.
Depth and experience takes time and the men in Orange got whooped. TE missing that corner blitz, QB did not see it, play went the opposite way and ouch. I think I have a few broken ribs from that hit.

He was never listed as a dual threat, he was pro style out of high school. JG was listed as a dual threat out of high school and I'm pretty sure we all know how that lie turned out.

Hey has anyone seen k-town_king?

Thought Blackledge made pretty good observation that because our WR was closer to the TE, the corner was more able to creep and disguise the blitz. If WR was out wide, he could have at least seen him hedging in...probably a scheme issue they need to correct.

Comes with the territory.
He’ll get better and learn
Clearly the best option for Tennessee

What this offense desperately needs is a workhorse RB like the kid at Wisconsin. We need a way to move the ball and run clock to hide our defense. Chandler isn't that guy. Frankly, we don't have that guy on the roster right now.

I think Chaney can work with this kid and it will get better..Raw though and growing pains will follow..
I'm not sure Chaney helped Maurer too much in second half. I like mixing it up, but thought in third quarter we tried to pass too much for long completions on first down, which put us behind the sticks, and then UGA just brought the heat, knowing we were passing.

Like maybe Crouch? I like what he's doing on D, but would like to see us let him run it some, especially on 3rd down.

Jordan ran hard late. Need more Jordan in short yard deals. He leans forward, falls for 2 yards. They need to not be so predictable in the run game. There was something in the formation that was tipping UGA off. We'd hike the ball and their linebackers were already at the line most times. They saw something and exploited it in the second half.

3rd and short needed a big back to make yardage. Can’t use Grey there, Jordan could’ve drug em a few yards

Two things I liked. One, QB had fire in his eyes instead of deer in the headlights look. He's a competitor and appears to have leadership qualities. Second, UGA actually looked rattled in the first half. On both sides of the ball. Like, whoa, who are these guys, wtf? Loved it.

He's been up all night doing algorithms to try and make JG look like the better QB last night 😁

The interception wasn’t his fault. Palmer was running and “in and go” and the defender’s feet got tangled with his, Palmer lost his balance for five yards & that was the difference. Palmer would’ve been open.

Never like to lose...but what I saw last night was going clearly in the right direction with Mauer. The guy has to play to improve. JG should never start another game at TN (barring injury). That was at least a glimpse of our future if nothing else

The fact we got 70 yards on their defense on the ground is encouraging. Their run defense is stout.

Problem being that he's now more valuable on defense after losing 3 LB. Not sure they can move him nor do I think he wants to move. Kinda recall reading he felt his future in the NFL was at LB.

I agree with what you said, especially that growing pain he will feel in his ribs this morning. I pray he is ok cause we need him to keep playing right now.

Our defense played better also. We were playing the best QB in D1 in my honest opinion. He reminds me of Manning. We could not get pressure on the due to their awesome OL. You leave Fromm with time and he is going to make you pay. Our defense, once again, is thin due to injuries, transfers and dismissals. They got tired in the second half. Our offense didn't get us enough rest in the second half. I do see progress. We just need some more horses in the stable.
