Yes the secondary let up some big plays early on, but anyone who didn't expect some bumps during a transition in defensive schemes is crazy. They adjusted and started locking down an above average passing team, and making the most out of their opportunities.

The front seven kicked some @$$ tonight. We held their run game to 3.7 ypc and we were constantly getting in Glennon's face.

It was all around a good game for our D. I trust CSS with fixing the early missed assignments and making sure we play lights out D for the rest of the season.

I just loved that we were aggressive and blitzed all the time.. nice change from what we had the last couple of years.

Agree....For their first game in the 3-4 they settled down and played good against a good team. Better than last year and should only get better.

3.7 ypc is not stellar but it's not bad either. And it should only get better as players like Big Dan get more comfortable playing in the system. Overall this D could be nasty good.

Interesting that Sentimore and McCullers did not register a tackle and we still did well. I think their size and ability to stand people up allow our LB's to flourish so well.

What I liked best was we were aggressive instead of laying back. I saw several Pack players picking up their taste up off the G. Dome carpet after it was flat knocked out of their mouth. Secondary was bringing the wood. Especially #24 Gordon. If he keeps playing like he did last night he'll be playing on Sunday's. Gotta love Dooley's fire!!!!

This! We were hitting and tackling like men for the first time in a while. Nothing better than seeing players like Gordon and Brewer lay the wood and make the highlight reel.

That 3.7 ypc is also greatly inflated by those long qb scrambles on pass plays. Our D did well against the run last night.

The defense gave up some big yardage but made up for it with solid stops and excellent turnovers. All around the D was impressive for a first outing.

As our linebackers get better at reading the checkdown we could see either more sacks or more INTs for the LBs

I think we stuffed every screen play they tried. I could be wrong, but it seemed every time they tried to slow us down with a screen the boys read it and left him with no where to go.

Agreed his play to cause the turnover at the endzone was beast. I think this D will be one of the best against the run.

They can design all kinds of cool blitzes with him. If he gets inside the lineman look out. He can make a QB's day really long.

Yeah we shut down the screens. The only one that set up well was the WR screen where Gordon flew in and laid the lumber

Exactly. We need do a better job on QB contain, but overall take out some of those scrambles, and the run D did their job.

I like the fact that we actually stopped a team on 3rd and long! Been a while if u ask me. Beautiful interception by Art Evans. The one where he broke in front of the WR. He played it so well. I love the our D over all and I know they will work on some of the breakdowns they had early on.

I think the defense has obviously improved. But a few times last nite there were blown coverages with recievers wide open. And I cringed every time the nc state qb took off. because each time it was wide open. These things will have to be adjusted for, or the SEC teams will eat our lunch, considering the overall speed vs ACC teams. Still excited with what I saw!!!!

Right on the money.
We need to make adjustments quick.
Pass defense is suspect. A good SEC team will pick us apart if we don`t improve in this area, and fast.

Still I would like to take the time to congratulate our team for putting one in the win column and giving our fans a much needed lift.
Go Vols.
