He had enough money to get those tats. Those are not cheap! Bet he had an iPod too. Bet he had a big screen TV in that rented apartment. If he received that kind of dough what is he whining about?

Arian is one weird dude, but he's no dummy, and he raises a valid question: Should college athletes receive a 'stipend'? Or better yet, why shouldn't they?

Not long ago, "Olympic Sports" like hockey, swimming, and track and field required athletes to be "amateurs". Today, they get money and backing and sponsorships, etc., and they work their asses off along the way.

UT Football generates millions of dollars of years. Why shouldn't our athletes be paid?

What athletes? All sports that produce revenue? Or just the football players? All the football players? Or just the scholarship ones? All the scholarship ones, or just the good ones? Is there a "cap" per player or per team? If not, do we get rid of recruiting and just have a draft? Where does the school get their money from? Do they stop giving back to the university? Do they stop giving scholarships for the "non-revenue" sports? (Heck, they do that already. Football players get full rides. Basketball players get full rides. All other sports split scholarships.)

It's a long way to say it's a slippery slope.

The current isn't a great system, but the alternative ain't all roses.

Funny how people knock fosters contributions but back Karl. It's like you don't even watch games

$40k over 4 years isn't going to be obvious

People back Karl because he has not given two conflicting descriptions of his time here at UTK.

Foster does not care about UT. He should be treated as an outsider in the program, if he already is not.

Maybe its time to stop acknowledging foster as a VFL until he can keep his mouth shut, this would make his 2nd attempt in recent memory to bring negative attention to UT

Foster is a lying, ungrateful, narcissist who I root against every Sunday. And he just got humiliated by Ryan Karl, my new favorite former vol.

He's bringing negative attention to 2004-2008, not 2015. Butch was the first guy to get him to even consider visiting UT again, and he did.

Ole Fumble Foster.. Cement shoes. Gained some speed once he got in the league. Probably got on a PED regiment that the Seahawks do..

OK, is it still not negative attention towards the football program? His intentions are to be a destructive distraction and if you don't believe that your blindly in love with him.

Foster's an odd bird, and everyone knows that. I don't believe that he actually got $40-50K and that it's an exaggeration to show his opinion re: college players necessitating payments, but hey, apparently I'm blindly in love with him because I state facts and use logical arguments as opposed to simply stating his Vol For Life status.

It's a long way to say it's a slippery slope.

The current isn't a great system, but the alternative ain't all roses.

Most fans are not in favor of paying players. This is primarily because many still buy into the myth of "amateur athletics." Fans who oppose paying athletes frequently refer to the "free education" student-athletes receive and, indeed, there is some value to what they learn on campus. However, that education is conditioned on their health and success and always comes second to athletics.

If a student-athlete is hurt or unsuccessful, the coaches and administrators suddenly discard the noble ideals of "education" and a player is left with nothing. Fans would no doubt feel differently about the issue if a student-athlete was in their own family.

Moreover, no one mentions the lifetime of health care bills that await some student-athletes in contact sports. How can a "free education" compensate them for debilitating injuries caused during their time on campus? And how can we as fans truly enjoy a football game knowing that one player's career-ending injury will leave him saddled with nothing more than a lifetime of pain and doctor's bills?

Fans also like to imagine that college sports are somehow simpler and less corrupt than professional sports. Nothing could be further from the truth. College athletics are just as much of a big business as professional sports—it's just that the money goes into the pockets of coaches, athletic directors, conference commissioners and sports media executives. Further, the current system leads to corruption ,as coaches and boosters regularly find ways to circumvent the rules and provide benefits to young athletes.

It's time for all sports fans to wake up and realize that the current system benefits only the elite few who continue to perpetuate the myth of "amateur athletics." Everyone would benefit from a college athletics system that provides its athletes with better compensation and lifetime health care. If we truly enjoy college athletics and want them to continue, we better start calling for changes now. Because if we continue to throw more and more money into this broken system, it won't be long before the whole thing falls apart and we all lose.

I mean, it is what it is. Other guys get paid and don't talk about it. I honestly don't care what he says or doesn't say, it's just humorous to me that so many people do.

If nothing else, he's God's gift for slow news days in this town.

That argument baffles me. You choose a risky sport. You get compensated for your choice of a risky sport. But when you get hurt, I pay forever for your care.

Still don't know how to keep his mouth shut. What does he have to gain by this? Guess he hadn't heard his name mentioned enough lately.

He had some curious fumbles in some meaningless games, during the time he claims being so broke. Penn St game for one
That said he donned the orange so he can say what he wants.. Remember many college players are not fans of their school. Its a business
