Everybody chant SEC SEC SEC SEC

Damn yall some stubborn, petty children. Here's a scenario: if the league is strong from top to bottom and the top of the league is beating everyone from the top of other conferences, then when ut gets rolling we will be in playoff no problem instead of being in, say the big 10 this year where their conference champ didn't even get invited to the playoff. Gotta beat the best to be the best. UTs rivals having success means the respect will be there when another (Vols) sec team goes to the top of the conference. I really don't understand how this flies over all yalls heads..

Thats just BS honestly. I'd rather the conference be terrible besides UT, beat everyone by 40 and if we go undefeated in a P5 conference we're in the playoff anyways. The whole "I want to beat these teams at their best" is all high and mighty and I can understand it, but I'd rather just beat up on them like they've beat up on us lately. I doubt they care we are "far from our best."

I don't know, maybe part of it goes back to when I was in school and I would go to the Tennessee games on Saturday and then watch other games on TV with higher ranked teams and I just did not see a better team on TV and it was due to sports writers, who for the most part came from schools in the Northeast and Midwest that had the majority of the votes and skewed the poll results.

I always felt that the Southern schools got shafted in the polls and I enjoy watching the Southern schools dominate now like they did then, exceot now get recognized for it.

Call it a chip on my shoulder if you want, but it was just that way that I remember feeling and I am talking about the 70's & 80's.

I will always not only pull for an SEC school, but any Southern college (Clemson, FSU ect) to beat a Big 10 or PAC 12 school.

Absolutely agree. The northern bias was even worse in the 60's. noter douche worship was insufferable.

I remember that Nebraska and Oklahoma would never play any other decent teams in the old conference they were in during the 70’s. At the end of the season they would meet and whoever won was declared a freakin’ National Champion because they were undefeated. That is how Neb and OU won so many “natties” way back when. ND has always had biased ratings and still does. Johnny Majors has had several personal issues over the years but he should of won the Heisman back in the 50’s instead of Paul Horning who was on a terrible ND team with a losing record. Just anti-south bias plain and simple. Majors was a better player on a much better team, just did not get the sports writers votes like Horning did because he was a ND player.

That is one positive outcome from this.

The Herbstreits and all the others that continually bash the SEC have to choke on the two best teams in the country being from the same SEC they are biased against.
I have to admit that I like it for that reason. I went 22-20 on bowl picks trusting that sportswriters know what the f*#k they are talking about. Reality is they don't know jack chit. That includes the whole ESPN crew who we know has been lost for several years now.

Money is the only reason we allow them chumps into the house that Neyland built. I never want to see them do game day in K-Town ever again.

I'm def not a sec homer especially when we are irrelevant. That being said, I've struggled with my inherent hate of Bama and decided this will be the only time ive ever rooted for them...over UGA. We already have one ultra power in Bama...don't need another with UGA. They certainly have the talent but they are losing their two rb's which was prominent factor in their season. Plus if Bama winning gives Pruitt leverage on some top shelf recruits, then I'm making a one time exception to be for Bama. My apologies in advance.

Two cases of Bud Light and you can slide "one time". DILLY,DILLY ! A'IGHT !

You are entitled to your opinion. I just think that's a weak weak move. I don't want any help to the top, I want to beat every other good team to prove beyond a doubt I am the best. Being a big fish in a little pond is how you end up feeling all high and mighty then get smacked in a bowl game because you got soft beating the nobodies. I want ut to win as much as anyone, probably more, but I definitely don't anything handed to us. The wins wouldn't mean the same. Jmo

EXACTLY !!! All these posters who don't understand that a rising tide floats all boats are MORONS !!!

Do they think that Tennessee would be receiving all this money if our conference sucked? Do they think ESPN would have paid zillions of dollars to televise the SEC if we sucked? These idiots are just STUPID homers who can't think past their peckers!!! :banghead2:

All of that money that Tennessee could have used to hire a proven coach at some point over the last decade, but no.

Because they don't live out west. They just sit here and let John Adams think for them. He is one who has told them the other teams need to get worse for Tennessee to get better, and they believe it.

It's not "high and mighty"--it's the reality of recruiting. UT will not return by signing players who don't want to be the best. Players know they can't become the best by going up against mediocre talent.

Naturally there will be players who grow up hating or resenting the SEC, so there will increasingly be recruiting opportunities for ACC teams and a western and northern team or two. Eventually the pendulum will swing as it did with other conferences in the past, and the SEC will drop in quality.

But every year that we have teams other than Bama vying for the NC, the longer our conference will reign as a 5-star destination, and the better will be Tennessee's opportunity to ascend with increasingly better talent.

Fans have every right to be passionate and illogical. But those two don't have to be necessarily exclusive.

It's sad that so many people here on VN fail to seriously THINK everything through and how so many things DO have a effect on our Vols.

THINK my friends...ESPN and everyone else DOES keep a record of bowl Wins and Losses by conference.

At the end of the season bowl games wins/losses DO matter.

Top recruits DO matter and Tennessee DOES recruit against top teams in all other conferences.

For decades the SEC has been on top of the win/loss record after bowl games and that's PROOF that the SEC is the toughest conference in the country from top to bottom.

Normally the SEC has more bowl WINS than any other conference in the country so ALL the SEC teams get more free PR and more serious interest from top recruits.

SEC teams sign more top recruits than schools in all other conferences because the SEC simply IS the BEST conference in the Nation.

When the bowl season is done and the SEC is ranked 2nd or 3rd best Conference in the country then you WILL see more top recruits signing with other conferences and I simply NEVER want to see the ACC, Big 10 or the PAC taking more top recruits and I simply NEVER want to constantly see the SEC constantly losing bowl games and not having the respect and getting more top recruits than other conferences.

The SEC always Winning more bowl games and always remaining the BEST Conference in the country simply DOES have a big impact on recruiting and that DOES have a effect on recruiting for our beloved Tennessee footVol Team too.

THINK..When the committee sits down to decide which teams get into the final 4 playoffs the SEC teams are now seen as having a much tougher schedule simply because they have to play so many tough SEC teams....That's how the SEC got both Bama and UGa into the playoffs.

That's also why Ohio State and other teams didn't get in because after the bowl games last season their conference is seen to the committee as being a weaker conference.

More bowl losses by SEC teams this season WILL have a effect on the committee next season on who gets into the playoffs next year.

Right now the SEC Champion is a playoff team, no questions asked.

I NEVER want the SEC to get so weak that when Tennessee Wins the SEC Championship that our Vols may not get into the playoffs because playing a SEC schedule is so weak that the committee doesn't consider us as good enough to be in the playoff with a chance to Win the National Championship.

I've always wanted a 8 team playoff and getting 2 SEC teams in the playoffs this year can only help push harder for a 8 team playoff.

8 team playoff would be lots more fun to watch and we'll all get a extra game or 2 to enjoy watching at the end of the season.

Yes my friends, keeping our SEC very strong and getting lots of bowl Wins simply DOES have a huge impact on team rankings, more chances for SEC teams getting into the playoff and getting LOTS more top recruits on the SEC teams and NOT on teams in other conferences.

I hate all other teams except my Vols but it's also great when we get back on top to always be able to say we earned our top ranking because we play in the undeniable BEST Conference in the country and nobody can deny that at all.

For many reasons it IS important that all SEC teams get a Win in the bowl games and it's important that Tennessee plays in the best conference in the country no matter if we're having a crap season or if we're back as the SEC Champion.

I would be out of my mind furious if my Vols Won the SEC Championship but the committee considered the SEC to be so weak that my Vols weren't in the playoffs to have a shot at a National Championship.

THINK on these important factors before you cheer for all SEC teams to lose their bowl games because it does matter and can have a bad effect on our beloved Vols.

I want all the top recruits we can get every single year.

Ohio St losing by 30 to a 5 loss Iowa team (after OU handed them their hat at the horseshoe) is why Ohio St didn't get in. Not some false perception that bowl games from the previous season put Bama over the top.

Auburn (which was on the verge of firing Gus before UGA) is in the playoff with 2 Ls if they beat UGA in Atl.

The media jumped on the SEC last year when it was mediocre outside of Bama (who lost their last game).

The SEC has been dominate for the last 10 years. When does this dominance lift UT from its worst run in history?

The easy answer, it doesn't.

Really? So you would be just as happy in the AAC? UT would probably dominate and then you could spend your time *****ing about why that 12-0 record against an AAC schedule maxed out at #10 in the rankings...UCF would be more than happy to swap with UT since "Conference dont mean jack" I suspect...
12-0 in the ACC won't be #10.

Only on Vol Nation could posters continue to argue in favor of pulling for two teams that beat the Vols a combined 86-7 this season.

The thought of how sad the fans of those teams would be if they went on a 20+ game losing streak is worth the risk of TN being left out of the playoffs as a 2 loss SEC Champ or a 1 loss team.

The only thing better to watch is a dramatic loss due to a blown call by the officials.

The look on the faces of the dog fans after our Hailmary, the purpose of the NCAA.

Ohip St didnt get in because they lost 55-24 to Iowa.
Alabama got in because of their dominance, not the sec bowl record.
