Why is it some fans want to put down everything a hated player does, even to the point of saying how bad the competition was so whatever positive accomplishments are made means little?

While Ball State is not Florida or Georgia, Milton did perform better. We can rally around him for that. We seem to forget that no team is going into any stadium with the desire to lose. They will do everything they can to win and are giving it their best shot. We learned that lesson the hard way with GA State.

You have to give each player his kudos for doing his best against any competition -- weak or otherwise.

I’ve learned that those people are either trolls or that’s just their nature. As hard as it may be the best thing you can do is not acknowledge them.

Milton looked great. Why are ppl so concerned about the backup QB’s feelings?
You probably showed a little more about yourself than you meant to there.
Didn’t your momma ever tell ya you’ll go cross eyed looking down your nose at folks.

😂 I think you could read your post and apply it to yourself there hoss.

Again I said Milton played great.

Considering Milton's only incompletion of the night should have been an easy touch pass for a TD, I'd say he was dang near perfect.

Maybe because theyre fans of the UT Vols and the Players are VFLs.

That's why i hope every guy on the roster gets treated well by the fans.
I mean it’s a message board, ppl are going to be critical of players and coaches. That just comes with the territory. I thought Joe had a great game. Some are going to minimize that bc it was Ball State and I think that’s fair as well.

Milton looked miles better than where he left off last year. He had a very solid outing last night. Hitting Holiday in stride was beautiful. He identified the defensive mistake quickly and capitalized.

Why would they be critical? Especially of that performance?

Yep, just like QBs, posters are what their record says they are. Plus/minus numbers as VOLS are what they are. If you walk like a duck yada yada. Rational analysis is a plus, cheap shots are a minus. Repetitive opinion driven minuses are like repetitive ints and fumbles.

Only thing I can see is it’s ball state he was playing against. If Milton was the starter I don’t think anyone would’ve been concerned about Ball State. I would simply say those that have been critical of Milton have been critical of his play in big moments during big games, we weren’t going to dispel those concerns during Ball State game. That said I don’t see a reason to be an Ahole and not give him credit, he played as well as you could ask for.

That play and the wheel route were encouraging in that it shows he was surveying the entire field and not just locked on a primary receiver. The first was a typical Milton missile, and the second dropped in, both were able to be caught in stride. I found that encouraging that more lights might be coming on... hope that is the case. Would love for him to have some 4 minute packages to get HH out of harms way. His extended sideline communications instead of hurry up might indicate something like that is on the table and not just mop up duty. We shall see I guess.

Just my little insignificant, who cares, OK Boomer, opinion about this situation and yes, I know there will be some disagreement about it. I know, I know, "but they have been getting paid under the table forever..." Since NIL is now the King of college football and a lot of these "kids" are getting a college education valued at around $100K (if you're on full scholarship) in addition to lucrative money deals, they need to learn to live with the criticism. They made the push for getting paid like a professional athlete, they can bear the weight of being treated and criticized like a professional athlete. You want to make money, fine, I expect a return on my investment. You can't have it both ways. Either perform to the level you're getting paid or get off the field. The landscape of college football changed instantly when NIL came into play. Stop treating these professional athletes like college kids. They're getting paid to perform. Every single professional QB gets hammered when they underperform. Oh well.....welcome to the new professional criticism that you signed up for when you entered into that NIL deal.

This isn't particularly about Milton, but all college athletes at this point.

Milton flashes being a great QB. The swing pass to Sampson ( I believe) was really good and probably a pass he would have missed last year. The pass to Holliday was perfect. Then we see flashes of the old Milton where he throws a bullet ball to a wide open receiver. That was the only mistake he made and overall he looked really good. If he can stay calm I think he could be a good QB.
