I was in the market for a new TV for my Mom and I'd never been in one of their stores. So I find a TV that I'd like to purchase, in the course of my conversation with the sales drone, I ask how much the extended warranty coverage costs. With a straight face this guy says, "199 for the two year, 299 for the 3 year and 399 for the 4 year." To which I ask, "200 dollars for the two year?"

"Yes." says he, "but you get half of that back..." I didn't catch the rest, but it was some unspecified date and time after purchase.

When asked who provided the coverage, Drone couldn't tell me (he didn't know). I politely informed him that Walmart and BestBuy both use the same company with only slight differences in coverage from each other, for a fraction of what he just quoted me.

It was all very cordial, but I got out of there as quickly as I could.

after all that, the $50/4 year coverage I bought at Best Buy seemed to be a bargain.

Went there a lot when I was a teenager to buy car stereo equipment. Has been several years but their prices seemed good. They have good brands, etc

EE has a long reputation for screwing people after the purchase

I used to work for a company that brokered extended warranties on electronics. The odds of the customer getting back more value than what they paid for the warranties was astronomical. And we estimated half of the claims were some sort of fraud

Found their website electronicexpress.com.

I'm all for more choices when it comes to electronics stores since Best Buy is about my only local option these days.

they had a very nice selection, reminded me a lot of an HH Gregg.

their prices weren't bad either, but I've had to use the extended warranty twice for TV's I've bought from Wal Mart, so they're definitely worth having, just not for $200+

I prefer EE over Best Buy or HH Greg. Generally cheaper than the other two, but doesn't always carry the higher end stuff. Extended warranty is never a good deal regardless of where you go.

in my case, the extended warranty has paid for itself twice already.

We had one here that opened and closed within 6 months. I went in twice, once to price a new network wireless router and once to see about an xbox 360. Would not normally go to an electronics store for these but they had a flyer in the Sunday paper and were on my way home. Both times I found them to be less informed than me (which is not easy). I ended up buying everything from Amazon at a much better price.

That's what consumer report tells you. Consumer report is the biggest bunch of retards when it comes to electronics. I sold TVs and extended warranties for 2 years. If you sold them you would start believing in them.
