Anyone from the band on here? This wouldn't bother me near as bad if we had won, but wtf is going on with the band's continual showing of bad timing with playing Rocky Top when our offense has the ball?

Seriously, perhaps I've overlooked it before, but on nearly every UT offensive possession, the band went into playing Rocky Top while the offense was in the huddle. The band cuts it off when the huddle breaks, but the crowd, who is following the band's lead, continues with singing Rocky Top WHILE OUR OFFENSE IS BEGINNING TO SNAP THE BALL!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the band for what happened yesterday at all. But, man, when everything else is going wrong with the offense, we don't need our own band/crowd shouting overtop of our offense when the play is being developed.

I kept thinking of what Peyton Manning would do up in Indy if the home crowd was yelling while he was setting up the play at the line.

Have I just missed this in years past?

Ok, I feel better now.

I noticed the exact same thing. People need to get a clue in fan etiquette when the offense has the ball.

So it wasn't entirely Crompton's fault for the team's offensive woes after all?

You can trace most of the ills of society back to people who do the wave and stand up and yell at inappropriate times.

I'm glad i'm not the only one that noticed this. I used to be in the band, and I was pretty unhappy to see this myself. A lot of the nerds in there don't know how football works. It hopefully gets taken care of before the end of the week.

didn't hear the band play, but i did notice the singing on the tv. Not pointing the finger of blame on anyone, but it could very well be the drumajor.

The drumajor, i belive, is in charge of making sure the band plays what they need to play at the right time. (like a big hit, big play, fumble, ect.) with the very bad game, the drumajor was probably thinking along the lines of: "Man, Crompton really sucks...what the crap is wrong this time?! I was thinking that this year-oh look! a good play this time! That's what we want! yeah.....(sips some water.) Holy crap! we're supposed to play Rockytop! Okay band! 1, 2,....well, never mind, they're already breaking the huddle..."

I'm currently in the band at my high school and have a similar situation. I'm just guessing. This could also be that the drumajor didn't get the band's attention in time. This happens a lot in my band...heh.

Speaking of whistles, someone in the UCLA section must have had one. I kept hearing it being blown, especially during the 3rd quarter. Anyone else hear it? Several times, I looked at the back judges thinking they had blown their whistles.

^^^^I was sitting directly across from the UCLA section and heard the whistle the entire game on UT's offensive possessions.

About the first five times I looked for a flag because I was expecting a motion call on our offense.

The whistle would blow right immediately after UT snapped the ball and then randomly throughout the play.

This bothers me too. Usually the annoying "WOOOO" comes right as the QB cadence starts.

You know, I commented on that yesterday a few times. I kept hearing a whistle every once in a while, but the play wouldn't stop.

Well after being in band for 4 years, I can say with certainty that one of the directors is completely void of reason and logic. No amount of suggestions will change this.
A couple years ago I suggested playing Rocky Top from the chorus and was berated for doing so (this would allow the crowd to sing through the chorus and stop before breaking huddle). They will do things their way regardless of anyone's suggestions, so you might as well leave it alone.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the massive drop in band membership. Carter High's band is bigger this year. Something is amiss.

It's directly linked to my post, Ash. If Ryder wasn't a complete douche to us, we would actually want to be in band. If he wasn't as evil as he is, they wouldn't have had to rewrite Pregame and Circle Drill.

this is interesting...could you PM me more about this? I am still definately going try to be in this band in a couple years though. No changing that. But just wondering, how many members are left?
