It needs to STOP....we owe it to our new players to retain and exhibit a positive, enthusiastic and loyal fan base! We will get better....we have an excellent coaching staff and some great new recruits and a great heritage. The fans have an important role and that is to support this team when they are up and when they are down. It makes us look ridiculous if we get down on our own team....give the coaching staff a chance!! We are VOLUNTEERS and we would not change our allegiance even when we are not winning because our blood runs ORANGE! Many fans wanted a change, so we have it so let's get behind it and SHUT UP unless you are yelling for the VOLS!!

Well said, Slice.

I love Tennessee football and have for years. I hope that Kiffin knows what he is doing by leaving Crompton in the game. He is the head coach and he knows what is best for this team. I just have to ask, How many times do you have to mess up to be pulled out of a game? If every position is up for grabs in competition, then how come Crompton is still in the game every Saturday? When things were going wrong with the offense in the first half, he should have pulled Crompton. I have heard people saying, well, Stephens is worse than Crompton, but I dont see how this is possible. He is the worst quarterback in the history of football. He maybe a good kid and doesnt deserve all the put downs but he can not play college football. I wish him the best of luck when he graduates. GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!

(hopefully the passing game will come along like it did in the final minutes of the 4th)

I'm guessing this article has made the rounds on here, too.

Jonathan Crompton Era Needs to End -- NCAA Football FanHouse

I wouldn't want a recruit coming to Tennessee who thought he would have no competition to win starting time. It's not a championship mentality.

I think Travis makes a lot of cogent points, but I cannot believe a coach would play an inferior player in order to land a recruit. I know CLK is on OJT, but he is surrounded by experience. That just cannot happen.

"However, Kiffin recently said that he couldn’t afford to give Nick Stephens more reps in practice because Crompton needed that time to develop greater chemistry with his receivers."
Folks, this is just stupid and bad coaching in my opinion! Talk about putting all the eggs in one basket.

And just to what extent has it been revealed how bad Stephens is?

As far as I know, Kiffin has refrained from throwing Stephens under the bus. Jim Chaney... eehhhhh... not so much.

But let's say for argument's sake that Kiffin came out and made this announcement:
We've been practicing for 4 months. At this point, Crompton sucks so bad, I don't know whether to fart or puke. That said, he'll be our starter because if you ask Stephens "Who does what on 'Right X Fly Pass'? His response is 'Ummm.. I think I heard of that before'....

Now... that's probably what it would take to shut up all the waterheads who are calling for Stephens to get put in there. In the meantime, exactly how would that help the situation overall? To have that kind of announcement made?

At this point, the fact that Kiffin has left Crompton in this whole time makes me think that's EXACTLY what the situation is in reality.

I know it's too late now, but when Auburn's coaches had limited time to decide between 3 guys, they actually ran split practices (doubling the coaches work), but it also gave double the available reps for evaluation. Instead of a #1 guy taking reps, and a #2 guy standing there watching, there were essentially two practice sessions, so each got equal reps.

Sounds like that may have helped Stephens...or maybe not, maybe he's just bad. But he's certainly worth a look in actual game day action. Unless Crompton can reproduce he second half again for the rest of the year.

tennessee football is pretty laughable right now. we are a joke.

I agree. Going from 4 in a row to Auburn and Florida to 5 in a row really took us into joke territory. We've been more of a gag before this season.

Yep. Then they moved the other guy to WR. We did the same thing and came to the same conclusion, but Stephens isn't athletic enough to play another position. Instead he just became the backup and got fewer reps.

Only a mindless d-bag would argue that Chris Todd and Jon Crompton are equal talents.

Chris Todd also had how many years at Texas Tech who runs a similar, albeit not exact, offense?

I am interested in reading Clay Travis' book, however, I think this particular article is more of a vent then true journalism.

Not recommended. At least save your money and pick it up used or from a library.

There is almost nothing in it that any serious Tennessee fan wouldn't already know.

I think we can all agree on one thing...that something does need to be done to shake the passing game up. We simply cannot continue where we are and what we're doing. Be it players, routes, game plan...the pot needs to be stirred. Five games in and it looks very much like last year year...Fulmer played it safe with a passing game of short easy throws and prayed on ball control. We are not going to win with 3 yrd screen passes and 5 yrd slants or fade routes thrown all day.

I like the running game, and our D, with the current situation.

Kiffin is locked into playing Bray next year--and that will almost certainly mean more losses.
