And if they were "Berthas" the complaint would be they aren't feminine enough. What was that some of you were saying about McCowan a couple of weeks ago?
LV stylin' was definitely not invented by this team. Anyone remember Bridget Gordon's jewelry? Ace Clement's perfectly applied make up? Ashley Robinson's eyelashes? (Beautiful girl, possibly the worst LV free throw shooter in history). Kellie Jolley could braid hair 1000 different ways.
We got a heap of real problems to be going all personal appearance on them. Personally I don't care if they wear prom dresses and shave their heads if they can concentrate for 40 consecutive minutes, hit a decent percentage of lay ups, and keep their body mostly between the offensive player and the basket.
I don't care, either, but what we see encapsulates a certain mind-set. You have hit close to the reason I have mentioned the fake eyelashes, etc. Do you remember when we had players who would DIVE after the ball-- even into the scorer's table? Who would go out and play so hard they would really sweat? Who occasionally would have to have medical attention for a cut? I do.
Contrast that with the young women who come down the court tucking stray hairs into their updo. Players who would no more stretch to get a loose ball than they would fly. Players who will step back and let someone else scrap for the ball. Players who seem to worry that their shorts are not rolled just right.
I think back to watching Kim Mulkey tear down the court, all 5'2" of her, French braid flying, like an avenging angel, leading her team (LA Tech) back before the women's NCAA. She took on everybody and was quite intimidating. I am sure you can name former TN players who show that same fierce dedication ( Holdsclaw, Catchings, Parker, Lawson...)Have you seen more than 2 players like that on our bench since Holly took over?
Are we recruiting real players? Young women who are willing to work to be VFL? Combine good coaching with players who want to and are willing to play ball!
I'm putting the soapbox away now.
