Even More Obamacare Follies

More like a politician being a hypocrite.

How so? People in the TN legislature didn't have a chance to vote for or against ACA, just like the rest of us it was shoved down our throats. I have no problem with anyone abiding by the law.

I think with the examples coming out of some other states we should be thankful our state guys didn't opt in on the expansion.

More like a politician being a hypocrite.

Sen. Todd Gardenhire, R-Chattanooga, benefited from the Affordable Care Act by having his adult son enrolled on state benefits, but voted twice to keep Tennessee from using the federal health law to provide health coverage to poor people.

Hope he doesn't get re-elected.

Good to see you posting more Gramps.

Agree with you hog. I think the guy is a piece of crap as a politician, but I wouldn't consider him a hypocrite for taking advantage of a law that was passed. In fact, he'd be an idiot if he didn't.

If someone (not just a politician) is not in favor of a bill, but it passes and becomes law, I see no reason why they still shouldn't receive the same benefit as everyone else. That's like voting against increasing the minimum wage, and if it passes, continuing to work for less than minimum wage.

How does someone taking advantage of something they were against not make them a hypocrite? If the law made him do it I get, but he had a choice.

Because their job as a Senator is to represent their state. As elected officials if they make decisions based primarily on their personal views, which may be in contrast to the views of their voters, then they will likely be a one term Senator. But that's still not what is most relevant.

If you were against the government passing a law that would pay off student loan debt, but then that law got passed... would you advise your son that he should not take advantage of this new law?

He is against allowing Gov Haslam to enact his health care plan for TN citizens yet he wants to deny others access to healthcare. That is being a hypocrit.ihypocrit.if it good enough for him it should be good enough for all citizens of TN

You are elected as a representative of your state. Which means you share the same beleifs as the vast majority of your state. Unless he's lied about his opinions on this matter which is what it seems like he has. You can't say you're against something only to turn around and do that exact thing. That is a hypocrite.

He's a representative of his district not the entire state.

Sure you can. I can vote against increasing the speed limit on interstates from 75 to 85, but if it becomes law I would not feel hypocritical at all by driving the speed limit.

Practice what you preach man. If you are going to be for or against something then it needs to be the way you do it as well. Speed limit included.

If you voted against an increased speed limit then you had your reasons to do so. If you then in turn, go against your own reasons, then you would be a hypocrite. The law is not forcing you to drive 85, it is a speed limit. It was your choice to drive the extra 10 MPH.

If your preacher kicks a homosexuals out of Church on Sunday saying he is going to hell and that he and the Church would never approve of anything like that. But, 2 days later was caught between the sheets with another male. Hypocrite.

If an athlete comes out publicly stating that other athletes that use steriods are pathetic and voted against the use of them. Then failed a steroid test a few weeeks later. Hypocrite.

Hypocrite: a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.

Your examples aren't quite the same: (1) they refer to people who are freely choosing to express their opinions, and (2) the subject matter is not something that has become state or federal law.

A Senator's job, on the other hand, is actually to voice his opinion on proposals that may in fact become laws. If he did not voice his concerns, then he would not be doing his job. Just curious... would you rather have a Senator who never takes a position either way on proposed Bills?

Also, unless I missed it in a previous post I don't believe you ever addressed my question to you...

If you were against the government passing a law that would pay off student loan debt, but then that law got passed... would you advise your son that he should not take advantage of this new law?
