Current Commits - Offense (7)
QB - Ferguson
WR - Smith
WR - Harris
OL - Sanders
OL - Kendrick
OL - Skipper
TE - Jackson
What do we need? 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 OL
Who are the top targets?
Running Backs - The Vols have no RBs committed and are looking to add two. Derrick Green is #1 on the RB board. He's a high-impact player that is also an early enrollee. Green would likely split carries with Neal next year and would form a formidable 1-2 punch that the Vols have not had in quite some time. A.J. Turman is a tough inside-the-tackles runner that has expressed his intention to be a Vol. Although other names are being tossed around such as Williams, Kamara, Bryant, Wilkins, Folston, etc., Green and Turman are likely our guys. If, by chance, Green ends up elsewhere, look for the Vols to make a hard push for Wilkins (having some doubts about his commitment to Auburn), Williams (down to Tennessee and South Caroline), and Bryant (who wants to be the man at an SEC school).
Wide Receivers - The Vols have three WRs currently committed, but I have been told Camion Patrick will not be a part of this class. The Vols are looking to add two or three WRs, with at least one being a JUCO. Marquez North is #1 on the WR board and has publicly declared the Vols his leader. As long as the Vols take care of business on the field the next few weeks, North is likely a Vol. North is more talented than any of the WR currently on the roster except for JH and CP. North would get immediate playing time next year hes a special talent. The JUCO WRs we are pursuing and will definitely take the first to commit (maybe both) are Rumph and Strong. Rumph seems most likely to be a Vol as he has officially visited and publicly declared the Vols as his leader. Rumph is a big target (65 215) and would come in next year with the expectation that he would immediately contribute. Hes no CP, but he is a high-impact JUCO WR. Rumph would have two years of eligibility remaining. Strong is an intriguing target. He does not have incredible measurable (not that they are bad), but he puts up huge numbers, finds a way to get open, has great hands, and will have three years of eligibility remaining. The question on Strong is, when is he going to graduate. At this point, that answer is not clear. The Vols are also recruiting Eldridge Massington and would take him if he wanted to flip from USCw. Because of the success of JH and CP, the Vols are receiving recent interest from a few top-10 HS WRs, and the Vols are currently working on setting up some official visits for the Missouri weekend. This could get interesting.
Tight Ends The Vols have one TE committed and may add one more if there is room. Lucas Wilson is most likely the only other TE the Vols would take. Wilson has good hands, average speed, and is projected to be more of a blocking TE than a deep receiving threat. Wilson is down to Tennessee and Air Force. At this point, Wilson appears to be favoring the Vols, but he very well may end up choosing a career in piloting at the Air Force Academy. The JUCO TEs this year are not impressive, but a prospect or two may emerge as the JUCO seasons progress.
Offensive Line The Vols have three OL publicly committed. The worst-kept silent commitment is Reeve Koehler, and he gives the Vols four offensive line commitments (two interior and two tackles). The Vols are unlikely to take a fifth OL commitment unless a big-time prospect is landed. The name to keep an eye on is Derwin Gray (currently committed to Maryland). There is an outside shot for the Vols to sway his teammate (LB Yannick Ngakoue), which would make the recruitment of Gray a lot more interesting. Pittman continues to evaluate HS film and new names may come to the surface. At this point, the coaches are very happy with the 4-man OL class.
Best-case finish Green, Turman, North, Rumph, Koehler
