Defensively, it continues to be technique work to clean up the mistakes made in the West Virginia game because of fundamentals.
Freshman linebacker JJ Peterson remains in the acclimation period and is still trying to get a handle on how to do drills and the pace of things. Peterson was receiving a lot of individual instruction during the fundamental work in practice. At one point for a few minutes, even head coach Jeremy Pruitt was in linebacker drills.
Offensively, running back Ty Chandler who didn't practice on Monday and was listed as day to day by Pruitt was back on the practice field on Tuesday.
-Brent HubbsOn the offensive line Drew Richmond and Marcus Tatum appeared to be getting the work at right tackle as it looks like there was no real shuffling of personnel and positions during the individual work.
The departure of sophomore Trey Coleman left the Vols with just four scholarship running backs in Chandler, Tim Jordan, Madre London and Jeremy Banks, and Tennessee's staff decided to move Princeton Fant back to running back this week to add another body there.
Sophomore Kivon Bennett was part of Tennessee's second trio on the defensive line against West Virginia as he rotated in at defensive end alongside Paul Bain and Emmit Gooden to spell starters Kyle Phillips, Shy Tuttle and Alexis Johnson.
Bennett appeared to be going through individual drills with the outside linebackers on Tuesday, though.
With Bennett working elsewhere, freshman Kingston Harris and sophomore Matthew Butler were in their regular jerseys and numbers and working at defensive end on Tuesday, suggesting they are not with the scout team this week. Harris briefly played in the opener, but Butler has been with the scout team. He is now wearing No. 94.
Jahmir Johnson, who started at left guard at West Virginia, continued to get reps at right tackle on Tuesday.
That left freshman Jerome Carvin and redshirt freshman K'Rojhn Calbert to get the bulk of the work at left guard next to left tackles Trey Smith and Nathan Niehaus.
-Patrick BrownSafety Todd Kelly Jr. was going through individual drills normally on Tuesday.
