First, Jones & staff have been in on these two for a long time. They have established real relationships. Second, these two know they will be going to a traditional power in the SEC - the nation's premier conference. Third, the current commitment class is ranked #1 in the country on Rivals. Why walk away from something that special? Fourth, the Dools factor. Santos not only openly stated before his verbal that he was always a Texas fan, but he was also being recruited by a Vol coaching staff and program in turmoil. Didn't take a genius to figure that one out when his Texas offer came.
:good!:
I think if a current commit decides to visit anywhere else(offer in hand or not), they will not be considered a Vol by our staff going forward.
I don't know about the rest of you but if I was a recruit that was committed to a school and the coaching staff told me I couldn't use my visits I would tell them to kick rocks and go anyway. This only happens once in these kids life and I would most certainly take advantage of it and see as much of the country I possibly could. If you ask me, if a coaching staff tells you not to visit any schools after you commit then that staff isn't confident that they will land that particular recruit. I personally hope this isn't the case with our staff, if these kids truly want to be Vols then it shouldn't matter what schools they visit.
Both of these commits are from the state of Ohio but according to Rivals neither have offers from Ohio State. If and when they were to get offers what would the odds be that they do to us what Santos did when he got a last minute offer from Texas?
Sorry if there has already been a thread started about this.
If the staff has told them upfront that is the deal, I would have no issue with it. Guys like McDowell, Truitt, Bates, and others have chose to wait as they may take visits. Those who chose to commit now IMO have decided they are happy with their decision and don't need to see anything else. The staff is not forcing them to not take visits. It is their choice to commit now and not take them or take them and wait to make a decision.
Fair question I think.
As long as Urban Meyer and tOSU are lurking there is always a chance.
I asked the same question about Von Bell the night before signing day and got flamed by the many 'insiders' on here.
Do doubt. Meyer and Saban both just basically get whoever they want. I'll probably get flames for this but I truly believe that there are some shanagins going on. Not sure they're paying but something is there. I always said the same thing with Armstrong. When somebody wins on unprecedented levels there's usually something going on. There are lots of great, hardworking and likable coaches out there. But they'll always lose to Saban or Meyer.
