Rice was asking way too much than he’s actually worth
I dont think that was the case. I think a more accurate way of stating it is that USCw offered him way more than what Tennessee (and every other program) thought he was worth. It seemed like he wanted to be at Tennessee all things being equal, but it's tough to turn down that kid of money.

Still doesn’t make it right

It's fine. I'm early 40s and play anyone from kids on middle, high school or play/played various levels of college ball. Even played with some former overseas pros.

The 18/19 year olds that start in D1 are physically developed and able to compete with guys in their early to mid 20s. They might have an occasional strength disadvantage but also fewer injuries and wear on the tires. It's plenty fair....football and baseball are a different story.

Can anyone explain why he was ruled eligible? IMHO, it's cut-and-dried that he's not eligible because he played professional basketball for 2 years in Israel, and presumably was paid for it.

Lots of overseas professionals coming to play in the U.S. over the last decade, especially. Most are young guys and go straight to a pro league in their country or join these global NBA camps (Vescovi).

There's nothing wrong with it and it's nothing like allowing NBA players of any level come back to college. The situations for these guys is totally different than kids that grow up and go through the process in the U.S.

Yeah, so I assume his hearing probably sounded something like…

I played basketball in secondary school. When I was 18 I went into the IDF. When I got out I needed to make an income so I signed to play basketball in the Israeli league. I would have come to the US to play but I didn’t have time / ability with visas and financial need etc.. So I played professional here until I could make my way to the US

He will be some big help to Gillespie next season.

Ok, I love this pickup and I bet Barnes does too. He is going to physically dominate younger SGs and PGs. Someone complained about his wide shooting base but I love it. It draws more fouls and helps him because his shooting base is exactly the same as his dribbling base.

That is very hard to defend because there's no tell so he can drive and get downhill or rise and shoot with no change to his foot placement. He often has one of the feet a little further back (dribbling stance) and still rises and hits. He isn't the quickest guy but is fine and his physicality fit Barnes/UT perfectly. Gonna be fun to watch.

For the folks who keep asking why he's eligible, the NCAA ruled that foreign players are allowed to have played professionally overseas and are still eligible here. People in Europe often play professionally at 15-16. Luca Doncic for instance was a pro at 16, if he'd wanted to play in the NCAA for a year, they'd have gladly taken him.

I am very happy with our class and would not want to change any of new players. We are set for a REALLY good season this year.

I couldn't be more excited about this upcoming year. I feel like our defense will still be solid, if maybe not quite as intense with Z and Mashack gone. But our offense really gives me hope for improvement.

Last year when Chaz wasn't on, the bulk of the scoring load fell on two guys, Z and Gainey. Maybe Igor early in the year. This year, if one guy has an off night, say Gillespie, you still have Ament, Burg, Amaree, Estrella, even Carey to potentially take up the slack. That feels like a huge difference.

Having an inside game will help so much. Being able to dump it inside when you’re not hitting from outside is such a great thing to have. We didn’t last year.

And Rick Barnes teams always play defense.

When Okpara and Carey are in there at the same time could be a huge problem for our opponents. Not could be, but WILL be a huge advantage against most teams

There’s also no age limit for finishing high school and getting a GED but every state has an age limit for participation in school sponsored sports. 24 should be the max age for intercollegiate sports and yes that is my opinion.
It wouldn’t stand up in court. I can promise you that.

Totally agree.. I think we will take a small step back defensively but offense definitely has more potential. The Burg addition really rounded out the roster.
