After watching Mowatt accept Parker's award, I think she got it because (1) softball was last month and therefore fresh in everyone's minds, whereas basketball ended three and a half months ago, (2) the women's basketball tournament ran concurrently with the men's, so anything Parker and UT did was overshadowed in the national public's eye by Florida, while softball's WCWS took place before the CWS, and (3) a lot is made of how dominant the best pitchers in softball are - of course, that is just nature of the game. Mowatt had a great year and finals, but she won the award because she had a better offense behind her than Abbott. What a difference a single run makes!

The fans voted - thus, pretty blonde wins.

And because the fans voted, can there now be any question that the NFL is America's favorite pastime?

wherever the Super Bowl champ or an NFL player appears, they win.

Save for the Boise 'game of the year' nod of course.
That was a no brainer....

Does this really bother you guys? The espy's has to be the most meaningless award show of them all.

The highlight package at the beginning is always well done. The awards are foregone conclusions and yes, meaningless. The video highlights though make it worth the viewing time....

I know, but we are at the midpoint of summer, it was a good show, and it's something to talk about. By comparison, I never care about any individual awards that are handed out between September and April.

I thought Boise getting two awards was a little overkill.

Boise did beat a program that has some history and is one of the top programs in the nation year in and year out, but as good as an upset as it was i still don't think that it was a HUGE upset i mean lets face it Okla was not that good last year as they have been in recent years and i think if Boise would have really played a top notch team like LSU, Florida or USC then they would have been beaten badly

Oklahoma wasn't up for that game either.

My thoughts....

1. Sure I wanted Parker to win but I didn't mind seeing Arizona's pitcher on stage :naughty:

2. I think it was fitting for Boise State to take home two awards. That is still the best college football game I've ever seen.

3. Maria Sharapova (sp?) looked amazing!!! Did you know the Basic Instinct moment with her sitting in the front row???

4. Colts cleaned house!

5. King James was great. Very funny!

6. The piece about the guys in Northern irland ran for about 45 minutes...they are doing great things but it was a bit long

Line of the nite: Jimmy Kimmel "Alot of athletes had babies over the Summer. Tiger Woods had a baby, Jeff Gordon is a dad and the Lakers still have Kobe Bryant"

They also got the Play of the Year for the 2-point conversion. First, I thought the pitch-back TD was better. Second, Endy Chavez's catch and double play in the NLCS was probably the greatest defensive play in baseball history, but it will get lost because the Mets lost the game.

Did anybody catch the line from Kimmel to Shaq about what it would take for Kobe to go to the Heat?

Missed that one

Another great Kimmel line:

"Being up here on a stage in front of all these great athletes is kinda wierd...now I know what it feels like to be a stripper"

No sir, you miss the most important factor why Mowatt got the award. :)

:p I agree with you and the earlier poster about Mowatt, but that doesn't make her the best female athlete of the past year. Had she not beaten out Abbott and then Parker, I'd probably not care. She did look good on stage. No doubt.

The bit with James dunking his "baby" was offensive and disgusting. What was that supposed to be? Did the writers think it would be funny?

She sure did look pissed when they showed her after she lost.

I noticed that! It reminded me of the whole Faith Hill thing when Carrie Underwood won...lol

I also thought the dunking the baby thing was a little to much personaly.
