ESPN's Plan Foiled

He's a good QB.
They don't have Championship caliber players around him YET. Just Shipley really.

They need to hit the portal HARD.
They need competent coaching. Promoting from within has been Dabos problem. His coaches lack experience.

I thought everyone who was part of this broadcast and even Scott Van Pelt after the game were VERY complimentary of the Vols. McElroy was effusive in his praise of our team and the way our defense held up. Some of you seem to really try to find a slight even where none exists.

It was painfully obvious they wanted tonight to be the set up to push Klubnik to be the Heisman front runner for next season. Instead, from looking at the kid's jersey by the end of the game you would have thought green was an official color of Clemson. Well, at least we are all now scholars on all things Klubnik thanks to ESPN's lobbying.

Couldn’t agree more…it was ridiculous how much they were pumping him…my favorite was this whole spiel they did about his “focus” while Dabo was talking to him after a 3 and out…”look at how dialed in he is…he’s basically saying coach I got this…yada yada yada”… I’m telling you…it was the most blatant attempt I’ve seen to start a Heisman hype train

His parents were on TV almost as much as the game.

Could be that McElroy gets “talking points” to focus on during the game as long as possible, but afterwards is able to more freely speak on his true perspective.

Good grief---let's stop with the endless ESPN thing. Your suggestion is silly.

Completely agree even leading up to the game they were touting how now we had a chance to see this “amazing” qb, continued it throughout the game lol

I beg to differ. Shipley is there go to guy. Only got 4 touches in first half I believe. Travesty in my opinion. And he had some success running it up the middle in the early part of third qtr. Had me worried a bit
^ This. I was amazed at how quickly that kid hit the gap. He was in the secondary more quickly than I could blink 😬

Cade will be a good QB. That being said, I have never seen such propaganda for a freshman making his first start. There was a graphic in another bowl game ALREADY discussing Klubnik as a potential Heisman candidate for next season, which is mind-boggling. He made some good plays, but also made a ton of mistakes, yet the announcers had an excuse every time. This whole thing was just bizarre.
Just wait til Arch makes his first start.

Front runner? He started his FIRST game last night. They were certainly pumping him, but Nix, Maye, and the guy from LSU are all better candidates.

Respectfully disagree usually I don't focus much on the TV announce team but this was like watching the Clemson network for most of the game, yeah they said a few nice things about us, but they spent most of their time on Clemson and why in the world did they show Klubnik's parents 100 times?

Dabo has the same problem as Saban, he won big with 5 stars at every position, but with NIL and a wide open portal, he doesn't have that level of talent and has 5 stars at 6 or 7 positions now, his in game coaching ability is only slightly above average and they will run the ACC table but end up on the outside looking in at a 7 or 8 seed come playoff time
I agree, but Clempson captured lightning in a bottle with Deshawn Watson, Trevor Lawrence, Amari Rogers, Tee Higgins, Etienne etc. They won’t get back to that level anytime soon.

This! Dabo won his championships poaching players that were originally going to be Vols.
I said the same thing in a Clemson Orange Bowl watch party chat. He didn't like it very much, but there was nothing he could say about it!

The announcers HAVE to have a narrative. You don't think they just show up and call a game do you?

If Hooker had played, there would have been a boat load of "The Hendon Hooker Story" material but he didn't play.

If these guys don't have a bunch of material, background, focus for the game.... there would be a bunch of dead air. All this crap is planned, set, and if you watch carefully you'll hear it in every game ever called. There's a "we're going to do this, then this, then this graphic, then this."

The "freshman taking over" was exciting. If Hooker was healthy, I guarantee he'd have been A: in NYC for the Heisman and B: a heavy focus for the show.

It's a show, not a conspiracy.

Dude you know Clemson will win the ACC and be in the playoffs most years. Clemson may fall off a little bc an elite Tennessee and Clemson cannot exist; they recruit the same areas.
