I fail to see why he needed to throw in the recent troubles towards the end of the article when the article was about Tennessee Tradition and the stadium.

"Andrew Johnson, who later became the nation's 17th president, marched 600 miles overland with 1,500 sharpshooters from the state, answering Andrew Jackson's call to defend Louisiana from the British in the War of 1812." Andrew Johnson was six years old at the time of the Battle of New Orleans. Maybe next time, do a little research says the caveman.

Great read. Few mistakes. I guess that's customary in today's ESPN journalism about anything UT.

Clearly he meant Andrew Jackson, but still very sloppy...

He didn't mean Andrew Jackson. Read it again. He says "17th president". He says, "answering Andrew Jackson's call to defend Louisiana from the British in the War of 1812." Andrew Jackson probably shouldn't be answering calls from himself.

Andrew Johnson was born in 1808 so it doesn't really make sense. Maybe he was talking about James K Polk, but I don't think he ever soldiered.

Your avatar is a sweet picture, but it would make a great "O Rly?" pic.

Overall, this was a really good article. It had its low points but it was good. Even though they screwed up a few parts to "Rocky Top."

I e-mailed the writer and "corrected" him on a couple of points.

His reply:

Mr. Hargis,

No need for the quotation marks, these are definitely errors. I've heard about them a few times this morning, as I'm sure you can imagine! I had a great time at UT, and I appreciate the love and the knowledge Vols fans have. Next time, I'll have to come back and sit in the stands with everyone else!

Sincerely,

Eric Angevine

I emailed him, too. He said he had been getting a real "butt kicking" from the Tennessee fans over the artificial turf remark.

Be nice now! Y'all correct the nice man without being snotty. We wouldn't want him to think we were a bunch of bammers or something like that.

Neyland Stadium -- The color orange - ESPN

"Discussion of the big screen takes up dozens of pages on the Vol Nation message board. As often happens when a treasured stadium is upgraded, fan reaction to the change is mixed, but most seem to like it. Perhaps 20 years from now, today's freshmen and sophomores will be telling stories about that old screen from back in the day."

pretty good overall article about the neyland experience.

I wonder how many stadiums conduct classes in them? I had my anthropology lab in Neyland.
