Here is are a couple of emails from ESPN. If you have a participating cable provider, you can watch ESPNU via WatchESPN. You have to watch via the cable provider's website.

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us.

Live events from ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU still exist on ESPN3 during the following windows: weekdays from 12:01am-5:59pm and weekends from 12:01am-11:59am. All times local.

I searched your IP address, and it appears that the Tennessee vs. North Carolina State game will be blacked out on ESPN3 in your area. This game however, will be available on ESPNU with Comcast online and on television.

In addition, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU replays will continue to be made available on ESPN3. Replays will be accessible as early as immediately after the conclusion of the event and no later than 2:30 a.m. ET that evening.

WatchESPN is available to fans who subscribe to an affiliated TV service provider. If your TV subscription is not with one of the affiliated providers for WatchESPN, please call your provider to request WatchESPN. Please visit our FAQ page for more details. Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.

At this time, WatchESPN is only available to you if you are an ESPN TV subscriber of Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Comcast XFINITY or Verizon FIOS.

Online registration through your TV service provider is required in order to access content on WatchESPN.

Non-participating TV provider customers have access to ESPN3 programming at WatchESPN.com on a PC or Mac, as long as they subscribe to a participating high speed internet service provider.

To view a list of participating TV/Video or Internet Service Providers, please visit this FAQ:
Frequently Asked Questions about WatchESPN

If you have successfully registered, and are still having problems accessing video on WatchESPN, please see the troubleshooting steps below:

1. WatchESPN requires Flash Player 10.3 or higher. Free upgrades are available from Adobe: Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player.
NOTE: Flash Player is not currently compatible with 64-bit browsers, please visit Adobe's site to learn how to use a 32-bit browser: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/000/6b3af6c9.html.
2. Refresh your current internet browser.
3. Close your current internet browser and launch a new one.
4. Clear your internet browser's cookies, close all browsers and try launching WatchESPN again. Warning: Any account passwords that are currently stored in your browser memory may be lost.
5. Try using an alternate web browser. WatchESPN should be compatible with IE, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.
6. Set your internet browser's security settings to Medium or Low and try launching again.
7. Your computer's pop-up blocker may be preventing the window from launching. To allow pop-ups on a one-time basis, hold down the Ctrl (control) button when attempting to launch the player. If this doesn't work, consult instructions for the pop-up blocker you have installed.
8. Close any unnecessary browsers or applications. This will also improve the video quality once the player launches.

If you subscribe to a participating high speed internet service provider and are experiencing problems accessing an ESPN3 event, please make sure the event you are accessing is listed as an ESPN3 event. In some instances, events are simulcast on both ESPN and ESPN3 and will be listed twice in the schedule of events. You will not be able to access the event from the ESPN listing on the schedule. You must access the event on the schedule marked ESPN3.

For live assistance with this or any other issue, please call Customer Care at 1-888-549-3776 (ESPN) between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. EST.

Thank You,
ESPN Customer Care

So this will work for the UT game? I'm concerned because there's a pretty good chance my wife goes into labor in the next few days. Already been to the hospital for a false alarm. And I know UT Med Center doesn't have ESPN U. The fact I live in Knoxville and even have the slightest concern I can get the game is an effing joke.

Your wife reads this post and you'll end up at UTMC! Been there done that. :p

Blacked out on ESPN3, but not WatchESPN, which handles ESPNU. Gotta have one of the TV subscriptions or they also allow a host of broadband subscriptions in. I'm in Ringgold, GA and it's supposedly a go. Bookmarking all the others JIC.

EDIT: Oops, just saw instructions above saying the same.

So this doesn't apply to me as I have ESPNU, but hypothetically if someone were to use a proxy could they fool the ESPN3 site into thinking they were in a non blacked out state?

This is what I'm wondering. Could I use a Proxy with a West coast IP address to watch on ESPN3?

Yes. I had to create an ESPN3 account & login without the proxy. It detected that my ISP is a watchespn partner. Clicked 'Remote Access' to link your account to the ISP. It shows the game as blacked out on ESPN3.

so I setup a proxy server in California that works via ssh-tunnel(I had to turn off the X-Forwarded-For HTTP header). point my computer at it, log in to ESPN3, and I no longer get the blacked-out message.

Sheesh, that sounds way over my head.

if you can find a proxy server in CA & use it you're good(most should have the x-forwarded-for turned off I would think)
