So how will this affect your upcoming college football weekend?

Simple really: Unless you have WatchESPN as part of your cable package (which most of us don’t right now), you won’t be able to watch any game broadcast by ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU digitally anymore. Not to mention any regional games not being shown in your area (say, a Pac-12 game on the East Coast) also won’t be available to viewers unless they have WatchESPN

I guess I'm good to go cause I just watched Kensucky get stomped by Louisville. If we don't beat Kensucky this year, we are really, really bad...worse than bad...rotten I guess would be the word.

So ESPN3 is basically worthless now? Guess I can let my Xbox live membership lapse. Anybody know if Comcast will ever get watch ESPN?

ESPN will still have some streaming events like European soccer etc. but apparently will stop streaming CFB in most cases. If your cable company offers Watch ESPN they will stream all ESPN networks content unless blacked out in your area. However, most cable companies do not offer Watch ESPN streaming content yet as its expensive and requires real time authentication. However once they offer it you can watch content on your PC Xbox and handheld devises. In a confidential memo to ESPN employees the company said to expect lots of complaints about this change, especially via twitter

Doesn't this statement hold true for ANY year? Not just "this year".

As of last week WatchESPN was available on Comcast, Verizon, Time Warner, and Brighthouse. There may be others but these offer it for sure.

watchESPN is great. More cable systems should pony up

I am in the business they will, it has just taken us awhile to get the technology right to support both Andriod and IOS for iPad and iPhone and the authentication servers and billing integration software has been a bear. We estimate 80 percent of cable subscribers will have it by next spring.

It was my understanding that if the internet connection is via cable (Cox in my case), ESPN3 is included. I was able to watch UT v. NC State without a subscription. I have also heard co-workers say that if your internet connection is via a phone company (DSL) that you must have a subscription. Not sure if this is always true.

Did you watched it by Internet streaming that means COX has WatchESPN available. If you watched it directly on your TV that means you have ESPNU in your cable package.

I still don't understand how ESPN 3 is powered by charter cable but us charter users can't use watchESPN.
