With Arkansas having PLENTY of off field issues, it was depressing to see him beef up Tyler Wilson and offer this about the Vols.

Best explanation: Seven assistant coaches left Tennessee’s staff following last season, and coach Derek Dooley was still hiring replacements just a couple of weeks prior to the start of spring practice. While conceding that it was rare to lose that many assistant coaches in one year, Dooley wasn’t bemoaning the mass exodus. Rather, he said it was a “correction” and equated it to a company starting up and fixing all of the things you don’t get right in the beginning. Then again, maybe all those coaches bolting were doing a little fixing of their own. Dooley clearly needs to show progress in Year 3 if he’s going to be around for Year 4, and the coaches who left made lateral moves.

Well, it's pretty much true....on paper.

However, I think the staff is upgraded. Especially at RB and DC. I hope OL as well.

Maybe ESPN should make a little "correction".

It's going to be like this until they're proven wrong. I don't foresee anyone saying anything positive about this team/University until they show what they're capable of.

Hope they're up to that challenge.

Hard to argue with the assessment. Perhaps winning might help our coverage a bit? We didn't fare much better when espn ranked bray/da'rick the #3 qr/wr tandem in the SEC. The hype is clearly not on a national level yet. @#understatement.

That assessment seems pretty valid from the point of view of someone who isn't a Vols fan. Only time will tell if the replacement coaches are up to the challenge.

What a bunch of pricks! Thank you all on volnation for helping me with my espn habit. They suck. How come not too much said about ark. and ALL those arrest? Guess nobody wants to add fuel to the fire. Dooley stays and it's that much longer the SEC dominance will last longer espn hates the thought of that.

Bottom line is the national sports press has absolutely NO reason to think that Dooley is a winner. Either he proves them wrong this year, or the fan base AND the press will be running him out of town.

Truth hurts. Most of the moves were lateral at best. But I do think the Vols are better off

I think that most of the moves were a Dooley/ Hart decision.

It was reported that their contracts would not be extended for multiple years. The new hires have multiple year contracts.

I think TN was doing an upgrade to coaching staff. When Dooley washed he was forced to throw a staff together fast.

Regardless of why they left, I believe the new staff is better. Even if the quality is equal, we now have coaching assignments in last year's weak areas. Jay Graham replaced a GA at RB. The secondary has a coach for safeties and one for corner. Last year we had one secondary coach. I believe Sunseri is an upgrade over Wilcox. Time will tell on the offensive side and special teams, but Pittman can't do much worse than Heistand.

In the end, it doesn't matter what the pundits are saying now. Winning will change their tunes and I believe we are much improved this next season.
